Hi everyone
I've just joined, so apologies if these questions have been raised / answered previously.
Please could anyone recommend any good 10mm Napoleonic Wargame rules which would suit the Pendraken Peninsular (and Napoleonic in general) Army Packs? I'm new to 10mm, and want to dip my toes into the waters ...
Also, do any of you know of so vendors / sources of ready made 10mm flags for the period? I know of Napflags / Warflag, but wanted to ask if members had come across sources of any other ready made Napoleonic / Peninsular flags in 10mm?
Thanks in advance, and regards
Steve ;D
We're fans of Shako by Arty Conliffe - command driven, fast play but lots of nitty gritty. About the only set I'd be bothered with tbh. I'll play them and I don't even like Nappies :D
Three infantry bases to the unit (works fine, but can look a bit odd as a "three directional square" - about the only complaint with the rules!), pop as many actual figures on as you're comfortable with.
Hello and welcome
I like Shako, but now I really like DSLB ( http://www.ganeshagames.net/product_info.php?cPath=1_7&products_id=164 (http://www.ganeshagames.net/product_info.php?cPath=1_7&products_id=164) )
Any good rules would work with 10mm. You may have to chose the level ( division game ? brigade game ? ... )
Thanks
I'll take a look at both sets on the net, and see where it goes ...
Cheers
Steve ;D
Lasalle from Sam Mustafa are a good set and also give a helpful breakdown of how to build units for the Peninsular. Most units are four bases, but some larger ones (eg. British Guards) are six. These are division level rules.
Don't know about the rules but for flags I would recommend Vaubanner Graphics. All available flags can be resized to 10mm scale; servive and quality are top notch!
Cheers,
Rob
I like General de Brigade, 30 Figure Infantry Battalions are about right as well!
For larger actions I use either Polemos Marechal de Empire or March Attack from Crusader, both have good points to them.
I like the Polemos rules too, though I am using 6mm figures for Russian Campaign games so I may not be the best person to recommend them for what you're after Steve.
I agree with Toxic. Shako does it for me, even if they're knocking on a bit now.
I like Black Powder. Emphasis is on control and command with mechanisms similar to Warmaster. Smallest tactical units are battalions, which are grouped into brigades for C&C purpose. Rules are flexible and non-complex. Written for 28mm but easily transposable to 10mm (convert distances to cm with added benefit of needing less space). There are expansions specific to Napoleonics but they are not really needed.
Another vote for Black Powder, a fun set of rules that easily would suit 10mm, I would recommend a 'normal' sized 6'×4' table though because the game is big on maneuvering!
For our H&M BP games we use cm not inches - gives you a huge table
If your looking at fighting big battles I would suggest Volley & Bayonet. Lets you play with multiple Corps per side in a reasonable time frame. Or you can use one of the semi-official aternative scales for smaller battles.
I've been using Song of Drums and Shakos Large Battle but at the moment I'm switching to Napoleonic Principles of War basicly because I like more choice when making up an army list. I might actually just en up using the lists for NPoW and playing the games with SoD&SLB, who knows?
Thanks for all the replies!
I think I may have played and enjoyed Shako in 25mm a few years ago, and have seen Black Powder played recently. I have played Warmaster a long time ago, so if this is similar ... I might look at that as a possibility. I know someone who has Lasalle, so I can borrow as copy of that as well...
I've bookmarked the Vaubanner Flags website to take a look at as well - many thanks
Will have to get my thinking cap on (dusting off those little grey cells as the Belgian would say)
Cheers everyone
Steve :)
Hi all I'll add another vote for Black Powder
Take Care

I am in the same boat and recently picked up March Attack (Crusader)' Rank and File (Crusader) and Snappy Nappy (On Military Matters). It is too early for me to offer advice on them, but all three seem to have positive comments on the net and would be worth you doing a google search for reviews.
My vote for general de brigade
Cheers

My vote depends on what size game you're after - and what style.
Divisional sized game:
Lasalle (Sam Mustafa) - clean and crisp, simple and quick
General de Brigade (Dave Brown) - a bit more complex and involved
Corps sized game:
Le Feu Sacre (Too Fat Lardies) is by far my preferred choice - elegant, good decision node, black box combat mechanics, emphasis on command
Anticipating that Blucher may be a cleaner, crisper option when released
Army sized game:
Still Grand Armee (Sam Mustafa) - getting venerable but still very good
Blackpowder deserves an honourable but not without flaws and oddly despite it's everyman approach and simplicity requires extensive period knowledge to get the most out of it
FWIW I play Lasalle for light pick up games when and LFS for proper scenarios :D
I'd second Zippee in that it depends what level of game you wish to play. My advice is try a few and see which you like. If you want to do it cheaply go to this site:
http://www.freewargamesrules.co.uk/napoleonic.html (http://www.freewargamesrules.co.uk/napoleonic.html)
Drums and Shakos is certainly an easy one to get to get hold of (and cheap, about a fiver) just go to http://www.ganeshagames.net/index.php?cPath=1_7&osCsid=45e75f5oh06rldbhd59im8brg4 and push the button, a couple of minutes later and you're reading it.
it ticks a lot of boxes
meant for a 6ft x 4ft table
fairly low figure count
not terriblt twee as far as Napoleonic manuevring goes
Army lists in the main book

For Flags try Maverick Models. Really nice to deal with and an excellent selection.
Just remembered; I do actually play Napoleonics, but in 20mm... guess that's why I forgot... :-[
We play 'Brigades and Batteries' available on the Internet for free. Easy fast playing rules; guess they'll do in 10mm as well...
Cheers,
Rob
I really enjoy Napoleon at War. Check out my blog where there are links to the Man at War site and some AARs. I play it in 15mm but if I didn't already have a 15mm collection I would certainly have done it in 10mm.

Still never found any rules better than 'Vive L'Empereur' by Ned Zuparko.
30 years old but still very playable.
Agree with Maverick Models. Stu is very helpful and will re-size to suit. Just
let him know the flag depth you want.
