Ok about to start collecting an Early Saxon range but not sure how to do it with the Pendraken ranges...
Anyone any ideas?
ARL 10 Militia and ARL 16 Anglo-Saxon Mercenaries would be a start. :D
Thanks Will...should have looked harder ( not get a skinhead and spide tattoo's)
The Late Romans (in the Ancients) can definitely supply a lot of what you need (and very nice figures they are too) - I'm sure you've already found the Dark Ages figures.
My Saxons are a mix of Pendraken (ARL 16, AS2, AS3, NO1, NO3, NO4) and another companies' 10mm Dacians. In the Pendraken ranges I have mentioned, some of the figures will be suitable and others not so much. I am also putting together an Irish/Scotti army comprised of another 10mm manufacturers figures as well as Pendraken medieval Welsh and Irish.
My Saxons are purely Pendraken, but no mounted as yet- anyone any ideas there ?
IanS
My early Saxons are culled from the Late Romans, the Norse and the Saxons (make sure you avoid figures with kite shields). Have a look at other companies' Goth cavalry if you want your mounted Saxons to have round rather than oval shields.
Sorry to butt in, but(t) which Pendraken are best for Dark Age Welsh? I've got the Normans, Vikings & Anglo-Danish I need for Saga, but haven't considered the Welsh...
I'll wait for some sarky comment from Ian, shall I ? ;) ;D ;D
(I reckon it'll be something along the lines of...."Ask Phil. He's Welsh. He lives in the Dark Ages, and we never consider him.")
Cheers - Phil ;)
Yakky da, boyo.

It would just be all too easy Phil
Me thinks you 'as said it t'all Phil
Although why anyone would want one of the worlds worst armies escapes me...
IanS :D
Don't you just use any old figures, and paint one foot flesh?
Not sporting to shoot a sitting duck in a coal mine.

Shouldn't that be a WHITE Duck....
IanS :D
Not easy to find a white duck down a coal mine, boyo.
Ooooh.....Now there'll be trouble ! :-SS :-SS :-SS
Ian ? Boyo ?
Cheers - Phil
Just proving 'is higerance........
far as I'm aware ducks don't like coal mines, although the Welsh variety may well follow national traits and spend half their lives in deep dark pits.
The ENGLISH are best.....
IanS ;)
Could someone rudely interrupt this lofty intellectual discourse and tell me which Pendraken minis are useful as dark Age Welsh? :-<
Anglo Saxon - AS4, AS6
Dacian - AD6
Late roman - ARL16
The AS and dacians are of the same size not sure on the late romans but Clib's stuff tends to be a tad larger.
All possibles???
Early Saxons.

I'll get my cloak.
=O =O =O =O :O)
Dearie, dearie me.....At least Wulf's got some sort of answer now.
Well done, Matt.
Cheers - Phil
If the Welsh are for Saga then there will likely be very little armour. Most bare headed, tunic clad, round shielded figures will do for Welsh. Cloaks look good on some figures. Archers should be even more straight forward. Use armoured Norse, Saxons or late Romans for elite, chieftains etc. Vast majority of cavalry by the C9th would be unarmoured and javelin armed. It's why I much prefer the C5th and C6th.
The Irish cavalry would do for Welsh.
IanS
Thanks folks. I prefer visually distinctive minis for 10mm, but I already use Vikings & Anglo Saxons/Danish, so I'll have to take a look at the minis in those codes. Saga says most of the Welsh can start mounted, so the cav will be useful...

I have had a chance to look at the packs suggested now - but what Irish Cavalry? The only ones I can find are Late Medieval...
Yes - those....the Irish were a tad conservative in their dress etc
IanS
You might also consider the light sarmatian cavalryman in the Dacian range.
Or wait for the Pictish Light Cavalry to go into production! ;)
