Title: What you got on the go?
Post by: Luddite on 13 March 2010, 09:44:59 AM
OK, so what games are people playing with their Pendraken minis?

So far our club is using them with Blitzkreig Commander for WWII.

We're just starting on Warmaster Medeivals (my minis turned up about 5 mins ago...yayyy!!!)

We've got a bunch of Pendraken Napoleonics sat awaiting a Nap ruleset we actually find playable.

I've also got a load of Boer War figs, again, awaiting a ruleset that will allow me to run the Battle of Colenso...

So far I'm a 10 mm virgin.  Got me some samples, painted some units, but haven't actually been playing with them.

I have a 6 mm ACW army, my mate bought one too, standard army pack each, and we are trying out Fire and Fury. we are still thinking about 6mm or 10mm, I kinda find the 6mm too small, no detail at all really, 10mm seems to be the perfect compromise between detail and the 'troop feeling'.  We have been playing boardgames for years, but historical tabletop is relatively new to us.

I have played in 28 mm.  I play warhammer (greenskins - dwarfs - empire), crusader HMB (greeks - romans and assorted enemies) and DBA/HOTT (wide range of fantasy themes) which is where my 10 mm army is gonna be used for.  My 28 mm double up as NPCs for rpg and skirmishing, so they aren't based correctly for HOTT, and I have to use unit bases à la Warhammer, which is not ideal.  I use magnetic tape, but it's expensive and the magnetic force isn't the best.  I could use NeoDyms, but they're even more expensive.  So 10mm it is.

Played Black Powder today funnily enough with Keith at PK's. OK and simple rules, good for big figs which is what they are designed for. Thanks for the purchase though. Watch out for the first payment off to BKPA! We are very pleased!

I have pretty good late war forces for Germans and Russians, and the first Romanian battalion on the table now, all for BKC.

My Italian Wars is 15mm, but I am about to start SYW black powder using Pendraken figures.

Hi Luddite,

Have you looked at the rules  By Jingo - The Second Anglo-Boer War, you can buy them from http://www.realisticmodelling.com/catalog.asp?subrange=rules.
They are designed for 10mm figures.
Also some pictures inside of Pendraken Boer war

Also there used to be a free set available online called Remember Majuba Boys for the second Boer war, but i cannot find them now i think they were somewhere in yahoo groups.

Finish off a British NWE Company based for PBI, also usable for IABSM and Crossfire

(Pad out 20mm Germans for use with TW&T- yes I know, not 10mm)

Finish ECW - based for Regiment of Foot, but will work with Warmaster/Black Powder

SYW for BP in 10mm

(Rebase and Finish off 2nd British Div for the Peninsular for BP, and do the French - 28mm)

Long term wish - Napoleon in Russia- possibly in both 10 and 28mm!

Focusing on the Sudan campaign these may help you with your Boers.

They Don't like it up em by Two Fat Lardies, ok but I did not care for them
Colonial Adventures by Two Hour wargames have enjoyed this one quite a bit
Science vs. Pluck do not own it but have heard good things and I do own a book on colonial warfare by the author and it is excellent
Piquet Field of Battle allows you to play most blackpowder era I have used it for Napoleonics, ACW and Sudan easy but mechanics are not everyone's taste
Pony Wars adapted for the Sudan
The Sword and the Flame old school skirmish level a staple of colonial players works very well for Boer Wars but I do not know if you want to base up individual 10mms

just my two cents.

ciao,

Hi

Just started on a French colonial army for Battles for Empire. French foreign legion, Zouaves and Algerian tirailleurs vs moroccans. Should be fun.

Up to a couple of weeks ago I was painting a lot of WW1 British and Germans, now I've got a about half a division's worth of each which is enough for a decent evening's game I've switched to clearing my pile of lead, finishing off odd units fo different ancient armies.  At the moment I've got 1 unit of Selucid pikes, 2 units of Egyptian chariots, 2 units of Egyptian infantry and a unit of Cataphracts to paint.

Once they're out of the way it'll be back to WW1 and the other half of those divisions.

That's out plan for now, although I have got a WWII itch as well when I see all those nice figs.
