Just out of curiosity:
We all know them, no one likes them: Players that are a pest.
Ranging from the arrogant **** to people uttering abuse and nonsense, powergamers and the like.
Whether tabletop or online games - how are you dealing with these unpleasant people?
I had to tell one last year that the door was open if he wished to leave. But it's not pleasant to have to do that.
I would just ignore them, its quite a small group of players I know so we all get on
Fortunately we don't have any pesky gamers at our club at present . When we did games for the following week were organised when they were not about for some reason, and we tried to avoid including them
I don't game with unpleasant people full stop.
In general:-
We are playing a GAME!
We have a simple rule that "the scenario organiser" declares rules thay are using a, what optional rules will be used and what house ruiles are in play for that scenario. ie for early WW2 some players follow BKC that HMGs have no effect on armoured vehicles , another faction allows them to supress armoued vehicles. So you know the score, if it bothers you tht much - sort yourself another game or organise the scenario
We all take the p*ss out of each other in a good natured way and generally have a good laugh so Its hard to get too worked up about it. Sometimes people get frustrated with the way the rules work or the crap dice (myself included) no one gets bothered enough to spoil the game. If issues come up we agree how we are going to deal with it for that game and discuss afterwards.
Never take up fencing. God, there's a sport that attracts testosterone-addicted egomaniacs (and at least three of the sweetest people I've ever met, admittedly).
Pesky players and rule merchants. That's why I'm solo. No-one will play with me :P

Too right! I once put up 200 yards of wire strung fence in competition with my uncle! I think he cheated.
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
You can come and repair some sheep netting, if you're any good at that.
Cheers - Phil
I your any good at rabbit proof fences you can come and repair my hare net
I admit sometimes I want to strangle my opponent :-[
Solution: Being VERY selective who, where and what I play. I demo "Urban War" and there are some types of players I do not want playing the same game as I do. Fortunately at least there I can be a pest as well and "discourage" my opponent from getting a second demo or even getting into the game.
What I dislike is an attitude of "come on let him be" by other players that are not involved. More often than not the person highlighting a problem becomes the bad guy - not the problem players themselves.
Having said that I would also argue that I am quite pleasant to play with with final verification done by my opponents.

What sort of foil would you suggest for Roast Lamb?...I prefer a thick double layered foil to keep the juices in, but I am prepared to listen to an expert for advice

Heavy duty, non-stick, every time!
A pilot friend of mine used to cover his lamb in bubbly milk chocolate when flying - Aerofoil.
I think he cheated - I suspected foil play.
I covered my custard slices in very thin aluminium - millle-foil.
DanJ good one! =O =O =O

We always play with the same three guys, so we get along. We also tend to switch sides most of the times, so we play the same scenarios, but let different players be the 'underdog'? That way there's no moaning about 'always being outnumbered' :D
I just play at home with friends now, so problem solved :).

To quote one of my regular opponents, "no matter what the scenario the enemy always looks to have more troops than me" ;D
How do I deal with Pest Players?
I just move across the river to Buda.

This opponent played in my second AWI game last night. Sure enough about turn 3, "I'm feeling out numbered here". He was commanding Lee's Legion and had 5 'stands' to the 10 'stands' of British.
He was only commanding a third of the Americans so he had another
10 stands of Americans supporting him ;D
