Title: Italians for Abyssinia
Post by: slugbalancer on 02 April 2014, 10:41:54 AM
Any recommendations for substitutes for Italian troops in the Horn of Africa in 1890s?

Hmmm....you could substitute Brits for them, or Mahdists, or Egyptians. I think these all fared better against the Negus than the Italians did!

Perhaps I didn't phrase the question well. :)

Any recommendations for Italian troops in the Horn of Africa in 1890s using existing ranges?

I know. But I've got to inflate my posts somehow if I'm to get another promotion before my end of year holiday.

I only live here! Why can't I rather have a Hussite ranking from the time I lived among the Czechs? They don't come any tougher than that!

Or, as a South African, rank as a Boer Kommando or Zulu induna? You wouldn't diss their fighting qualities.

Unfortunately you seem to have been hijacked by cheese eating, status-seeking post-hounds.

I'd go for the Zulu war infantry as the best fit for the Italian infantry.

Feathers could be flock glued to the side of the pith, etc.

Maxim available in the NWF range

My first post wasn't entirely flippant. Those others did fight them, and each other, so get the whole set and run a huge campaign.

Sculpted Green Stuff might be a better bet.

FK, I'm planning to do all combatants in NE Africa in time, it's just a freind of mine asked what he could use for Italians.  As they weren't next on my list I hadn't looked into what was available.

Which of the Askari types would be the best match?

You can use the GEA1 Early Askari from the WWI East Africa German range or just use the Sudan Egyptians for the Italian Askari
