Title: New ECW Rules "This War without an Enemy"
Post by: mollinary on 25 March 2014, 01:37:45 PM
Confusing isn't it!    :o. You wait for years for ECW rules and then two come along almost at the same time, with almost the same name.  This set has just appeared on the Real Time Wargames website, and has forum member Bernie Ganley as one of the authors.  I am sure he will be able to give everyone the lowdown, only to say I am ordering them to see If finally I have found my Holy Grail set. :D

Just looking at the rules link

30x30 base  represents 50 men in P&S regiment...that's a lot of bases per regiment

But in the news section it does say the author is trying it out at one base equals 100 infantry or 50 horse in order to do the national level engagements.  Either way, I have the figures, it's the rules I lack!!!  :D

Regiment of foote by  peter pig.

An absolute hoot especially the campaign rules leading up to the battle.

Sometimes some of your army doesn`t show for the battle.

Not a glossy set of rules but cheap as chips.

My favourite.

Pretty similar.

Never played BB but a couple of lads at the club have them.

I borrowed a copy and read them, same combat system more or less.

Hi

The 50 foot per base of foot or 25 horse or dragoons was decided on as it fitted in with the campaign system which was based on a single county, Worcestershire, and where armies would have been relatively small 2-3,000 a side at a large battle. We wanted big, chunky units to portray the woodcuts of the period.

At the back we show that the system can be used for larger battles, we use Naseby, with ratio of 100 foot per base and 50 horse or dragoons.

The battlefield rules flow pretty quickly and at recent shows have done two or three battles and that is with talking to fellow gamers.

We will be running the game again at Salute in 10mm - so 10mm gamers please come along to see the Pendraken range in all its glory

Great News Bernie, I am really looking forward to these rules.

But does this mean that your 1914 game will not be going ahead?

Hi Molinary

Guns of August been delayed till SELWG - seemed more appropriate in terms of the season! Gives us more time to develop the campaign system given the problems we have had with lost files over the winter

Hi

problem of pdf for our rules are the A3 coloured maps that go with them - few people have access to A3 colour printers

But you could split them into 2 x A4! Just include enough overlap to stick together...

I would suspect most people would want pdf versions so they can use them on their tablets etc rather than printing them out
