My Brits got right soundly thumped by Zulus yesterday. I'm not posting any pix at present, in the hope that I'll be reassured that this means it didn't happen. But I seem to remember artillery that ran out of ammo after the first shot (which missed), cavalry who dismounted to shoot and were overwhelmed by the next native move, and even a broken Scottish square. I must remember to keep my troops together in colonials (at least when playing regulars. Wide outflanking moves are a luxury to be left to those who aren't outnumbered three to one, and aren't likely to find that their pouches are underfilled).
What the hell, as a South African I should be cheering for the local team anyway.
That's not going to get you a mention in the London Gazette old chap!
Sounds like it went wrong from the start...
I was given to understand that a mounted cavalry charge was the one thing to which the Zulus had no answer.
There were three impis (UmXapo, uVe, and Umtulisaswi) menacing the 17th Lancers. They were well positioned and would have crunched my flanks while I was carving one up frontally. I needed to shoot them up a bit first, or so I reasoned anyway (have to admit, dubious about my accuracy there).
Hi
What rules were you using.

White Man's Burden. Send me your email if you'd like a copy.
Thanks
Don`t do the Zulu war but I play NWF and a bit sudan.

Using the hand drill to drill into my hand.....
They were written for the Sudan campaigns originally. It's still my favourite 19th century war.
