It has been a while since I last posted but I was painting up some kneeling dismounted union troopers and I am now about ready to paint the weapons as well as the scabbard etc.
Got me to thinking, do folks like to use metallic or non-metallic colors for 10mm? I'm also trying to decide whether I should go with a dark gun metal for the rifle barrels, light grey, or silver because of scale effect?
Just curious what others are doing.

I use metalics, but I'm new here. :)
I use a mid gun metal (Vallejo Oily Steel) for barrels and silver for bayonets and the hammer of the flintlock. I'm painting AWI, so scabards tend to be covered in black leather or similar.

For my WW2 Germans I use a Black base then Gunmetal Grey with a very light highlight of Silver. All Vallejo colours.
Nice figures and basing paulr. I may have to try the oily Steel. Not sure if I have Gun metal Grey however. I'll have to look and experiment. :)
I use Vallejo Natural Steel (864) for all of my white metal needs, on 10mm or larger. Then it gets a bit of a dull-down with a Pledge black wash. On 10mm I don't bother highlighting but if I did, I would use Silver (997).
I use steel with a black wash on all my Franco Prussian troops and metallic brass for various cannons/Eagles/sword hilts, they all work fine after an ink wash.
Natural Steel from Vallejo is a great metal colour

I use Gunmetal grey for larger metal areas, e.g. the iron straps on my AWI artillery and also for WWII weapons where the whole figure is less colourful

Black Wash - is that a Highland regiment, an Easop fable, or a Rolex down a coal mine?
Always use metal paints for metal, but don't always paint all the details, eg buttons.
For steel/iron I use GW's interestingly named 'lead belcher', whic is quite dark and covers well over black. I've a slightly lighter metallic not-quite-silver which does good for highlights or contrast. Looks good on 10 mm, I think...
It gives a bit of 'pop' which a straight grey doesn't, and I reckon that's good on a 10mm mini for a bit of eye catching :)
I use either Tamyia Gunmetal, which gets much shiner as you get down the jar, or Modelcolour Chainmail.
