Greetings all...
As the subject implies, I am going to be making my life a little more difficult that it needs to be.
I'll be trying to put together a small force to represent the Danish forces on 9 April, 1940...
So, with that in mind, and aware that I will be doing a fair of converting, I'd really like any information on the ww2 range of Romanians...
Especially RO3 (Riflemen, winter equipment). By winter equipment, does it mean a greatcoat? Is he wearing the Dutch style helmet?
Are all the Romanian figures wearing the Dutch style helmet?
If anyone has any pics, or can describe these figures, I'd be very grateful...
Also, i am eying off the German GR122 (Ardennes, riflemen) and again, any description or pics would be very valued!
Thanking anyone for any help at all!
Chris
Hello Chris,
Welcome.
I don't have any info on those, but I'm sure the rest of the chaps will shortly.

Welcome from me too, Chris.
Cheers - Phil.
First up, welcome to the forum.
Sadly I can't help with the codes you mention and my knowledge of the period is spotty, at best.
However, my recollection is that the Danes were in dark overcoats with either side caps or the steel helmets you mention. If I'm remembering correctly, you might also consider the Spanish Civil War Foul Weather Gear figures or the WW2 Russian SV34 Running with flag, in greatcoat?
Hope that isn't just adding to the confusion!!
If you have a copy of 20th Century military uniforms by Chris Mcnab
they have on page 54, a Private in Service dress and 55,A Danish air force Officer 56,A warrant officer in Greatcoat
Does this help?
Hi people!
Thank you for the welcomes!
As for adding to the confusion, well... I was pretty sure this wouldn't be an easy path to follow.
There were quite a few uniforms in assorted colours and styles in various points of being phased in or out just in the little period I am interested in...
Essentially my plan, just to keep it as simple as I could for myself, was to get assorted infantry in greatcoats and helmets, and then bulk out the helmets to the sides a bit. If you have ever seen one of those Danish helmets, there were pretty... unique looking?
I know I wont ever have it done perfectly, but long ago I conceded that when converting, achieving "easily recognizable" is a much more realistic goal than "totally perfect".
Maybe I am just wanting an excuse to create some little motorcycle tank-destroyers.
Any other figures with greatcoats and rifles?
Thanks!

RO3 has 1 pose in greatcoat and helmet, and the other is wearing a fur hat. The chaps in snow shoes are in fur hats as well. The majority of the rest of the range is in the helmet.

Helmet and greatcoat again for those, firing pose if memory serves.

Hello and Welcome Capt. Chris
It warms the cockles of my heart to see someone interested in unusual theatres of war :).

Some of the long trouser (non-shorts) Italians might also sneak in.

Thank you to all!
I have made a few decisions, and made my purchases.
If this actually works for me, and I am able to make it look vaguely convincing, I may even post a pic or two!
But, that depends on whether I can manage a not TOO embarrassing paint job...
Again, thanks for all the kind words, welcomes and help.
And even just making me feel I am not the only one who travels the harder paths!
