Title: Aquarium ornaments?
Post by: Wulf on 08 February 2014, 04:08:55 PM
Spurred on by the discussion on resin aquarium boats* in the 20th Century section, I thought I'd widen the discussion. As a fish keeper myself (mostly Livebearers), I always have a look at the ornaments when I'm in any shop selling fishy stuff (I go for a natural looking tank though, so I wouldn't actually use the little castles, etc there), but I never seem to see anything useful as wargame terrain. I don't expect it to look realistic, but something suitable for casual games would be nice, in 10mm or 28mm... There are some items on eBay, but despite the dimensions given, it's hard to tell what scale they would look good with. I should carry a couple of minis with me when I go looking for fish, I guess...

Has anyone any recommendations for some ancient ruins, fantasy castles, etc. ?

EDIT: boats, not boars...

Hmm... they didn't have any in the store near my work when I was last in, and the website has nothing at all - just a page saying "We do ornaments", but nothing to see or buy...

Do they look 10mm or larger?

I've seen them as well - no figure to hand to measure, but they looked pretty good & about right. They were doing 3 for 2 on all ornaments last weekend & then I got distracted....they also had some decent stuff that would do for 28mm pulp (skull temples-type thing). I might try to dive in at some point this week if I get a chance (away from the weekend crowds)

In general: YES.

I use plastic flora and about to get more stuff for scenery (Torii Gate etc). It all depends on the scale and you can get it spot on sometimes. On the plusside it is durable and painted and at least the stuff I get is on the cheaper side.

I bought a terrible-looking ceramic Chinese pagoda a year or so ago; after some serious repainting it does pretty well on a Ming battlefield.

Hello All

Just when I'd finished this reply on the Aquarium Ships (http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,9399.msg108951.html#msg108951 (http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,9399.msg108951.html#msg108951)) I spotted this thread. There is International Checkout available at this US site. Anybody had any experience with them?

If they're good it might go some way to easing the pain on USPS rates for OS parcels.

Incidentally I wish I'd found this before my Indochinese battle two weeks ago  =).
