69
(34x2) + 1
:P
Happy birthday Ben, Barnsey sent me some pics of Tyldesleys from the early 80s - brought back a few memories. Lots of very young people covered in mud mainly :D

(34x2) + 1
ok I'm lost =)
OK. We normally use base 10 i.e. each digit in a number can be of any value between 0 and 9. When we reach ten then we have to go to another column. So 12 is 1 in the tens column and 2 in the units column. 10+2 = 12.
Hexadecimal (base 16) allows for each digit to store a number between 0 and 15. (uses A for 10, B or 11 up to F for 15). So 1F in hexadecimal is 1 in the 16's column and F (=15) in the unit columns so 16+15=31. Did nobody ever play 'Traveller'?
Base 34 allows 0 - 33 in each column. So 21 is 2 in the 34s column and 1 in the units column. So 21 in base 34 is (2x34)= 68 plus 1 in the unit column = 69.
Do you wish sometimes you'd never bothered?
In your case we do all the time :'( :d :-*

Yep !!...
For example....Mrs T has an exceptionally 'logical' mind....She worked as a computer programmer MANY, Many years ago....She was 'in charge' of various projects regarding 'computers' as far back as *Official Secrets Act* forbids me to say what.
I can beat the 'poo' out of Mrs T as regards ANY games of logic (chess. othello ...you name it)....But she showed me the first page of "can you be a computer programmer"....
I was lost after the first line !
Cheers - Mr Numpty.

I get the PRINCIPLE...:-\
As for the maths:..... :O) 8-} ~X( @-) =P~ I-) =; in that order!
I'm of the GCSE generation so that makes no sense whatsoever. You need to explain it in terms of ... 'Jackie had 34 pies that she put in a row and... etc, etc. :)

I think it depneds on what train he is on and what time a similar train left a similar station at an undisclosed more distant location and the speeds they are doing
