Title: Problems on forum
Post by: mollinary on 21 January 2014, 11:43:55 AM
Am I alone in this?  Whenever I try and look at the recent posts since last visit I get immediately taken to put my ID and password in.  It happens every time. My end or yours?

How long have you set it to stay logged in?

"Relax," said the night man,
"We are programmed to receive.
You can check-out any time you like,
But you can never leave!

Not sure on that one, never heard of it happening before?  Do you normally stay logged in while you're away from the computer, or do you have to log in to the Forum every time you visit?

Also, I'm guessing you're still able to post?

It is fine now.  Normally I stay logged in, unless my IPAD crashes.   :-\ :-\

That's good, it must have been some random bug in the system.

If anyone else has problems like this, let me know and I'll ask Matt to have a look at it.

Never had this problem - and I've been logged in since 2011.

:-[ :-[ :-[....OK.....I'm going to show my usual. total incompetence with things to do with technology. :-[ #-o

I'm wondering if in fact I DO have a similar 'issue' as Mollinary. (Yes.....I know it'll end up being me doing something daft, or wrong.) :-<

I'm sure I've seen in the past something along the lines of "Time to stay logged on".....Last time I think I saw it it was some fairly huge number.....But I can't find that bit anywhere now...
That's sort of irrelevant at the moment.

I've never used the 'logout' button....(Hey..I've found that though  :>...Pretty good, Huh !).....
I always do the same thing that I do with any site.....Hit the white X in the red box at the top right of the screen....Then go back the desk top and disconnect the connection.
So effectively....When I come back, I have to plonk out my name & password each time before starting..(unless I just want to quickly simply scroll thro' stuff)...To me that's just been the normal state of affairs

My question is......If I haven't looked at every single post in the 'posts since your last visit' section......Should they ALL disappear once I exit the forum....Or do they hang about for a while ?

Sometimes ones I haven't read seem to all disappear if I disconnect from the net or lose my connection......Other times they hang around.
Something to do with the time I'm away ?

I hope that makes some sort of sense.....It reads like gibberish to me. :-[

Cheers - Phil (PS.....There isn't a button to mark posts as 'Unread' is there.....So you can save, and come back to them ?)

Each time you logout, the remaining 'Unread posts since last visit' will disappear, so you'll lose those.  That's something I've done a few times, when I've logged out in a rush and forgotten to go through them.  Then when I get home they're not there anymore, they've been replaced by any posts which have come in while I was driving home.  So you need to check through them all before logging out again (or any which are of interest!).

There is a 'Mark Unread' button on each thread, to the top right of the first post, underneath the Forum stats box.  If you click this, it then marks the thread for you to come back to.  However, just to complicate things, if you log out before coming back to it, it will become 'hidden' slightly.  To find it, click the 'Unread posts since last visit' button as normal, and then at the bottom of the list, there should be a 'View all unread topics' or something like that.  This will bring up any older threads which you've saved or not seen yet.
