I wonder if you guys can help? When I last wargamed this period I used home made rules and 1/72, 1/76 plastic figures mostly Airfix and Matchbox. however since again dipping my toes into this period I decided to change scale and opted for 15mm using a mix of Peter Pig and Battlefront figures and AFVs. I was not impressed with Flames of War rules finding them too unrealistic for my taste. i wanted to try Peter Pigs Poor Bloody Infantry rules which are aimed at company level actions but having got an 8th Army and DAK companies I found it hard to find any local (N Ireland) opponents who wanted to try these rules my forces have, alas, sat there in a box. I also have put together two forces again in 15mm for COC but again finding it hard to find a local opponent as most at my local Wargames Club/centre (?) seem only to be interested in Bolt Action At 28mm. I have tried it but again cannot warm to these rules. I noticed that a lot of you seem to use BKC so i have downloaded a Pdf set and found them to my liking however while they seem to be organised in threes three section to a platoon three platoons to a company etc up to divisional level they do not give any particular base size or number of figures to a base. I have noticed that pendraken do BKC battle packs but rather than have to set about collecting both forces in another scale i want to adapt those i have in 15mm could anyone please recommend base sizes and figs per base to use with BKC.
Hi Mate
CoC is something I am thinking of commencing next year though still debating scale
I have played BKC and was doing it in 10mm using small bases from FOW for each unit though I did base them for PBI which I never played. Should be getting a copy of BKC2 in the next couple of weeks for the price of 2 chocolate and raisin yorkies
Which club are you talking about as the only one I know of playing a lot of BA is the Wee Gamers in Ballyclare
HAve a look at this thread ;)

I use 40mm x 20mm for most of my BKC stuff - 40mm wide for things like infantry, heavy weapons and cavalry, 40mm deep for guns and tanks. Some stuff is too big to fit that size of base and I use bases just wide/ long enough to cope. Command is on either 40mm square or 60mm square depending on what's going on the base.
The number of figures for infantry and heavy weapons is largely irrelevant and base sizes for each side need to be roughly the same but other than that you can go with whatever suits IMHO.
I like BKCII for larger actions and TFL's Chain of Command for skirmish stuff.
I have a mix of FoW and Peter Pig 15mm stuff for CoC and mainly Pendraken 10mm for BKCII with a handful of pithead stuff thrown in.
The "official" basing for BKC (dont all jump on my head if I get some wrong, Mexican Dave borrowed my BKC I book a while ago) is
Infantry 50 x 25 5 figures pointing towards a long edge
Truck/other transports 50 x 25 pointing towards a short edge
Tanks/and other fun stuff 50 x 30 pointing towards a short edge
Arty/AT/AA 40 x 40
HQs 40 x 40 whatever looks good
CO 50 x 50 whatever looks good
FAO/FAC 30 x 30 whatever looks good
ofc you'll have to modify these as theyre for 10mm
There is no "official" basing for BKC at all*, so you can use whatever you like.
I know a lot of people use FOW bases because that is what they already had. I use 30mmx30mm bases for infantry because I started using existing PBI armies. For that reason my vehicles and guns are on 30mm frontage bases as well, usually 40 or 50 deep, depending on the size of the model. My 15mm are 2 or 3 inf to a base.
*The first page of BKC says "Your miniatures can be based or unbased as this makes no difference when playing the game the game".
thanks guys
as for unbased I refer to Hertsblue and how do you make the wee b*****s stand up other wise. lol
my figures for PBI are on 30 x 30 mm base so i suppose that could do?
Fenton my local wargaming club is Newtownards Wargaming Centre its on facebookthey're mainly into GW fantasy and Magic the gathering a few of us are trying to introduce some historical as i said basically Bolt actio for WW 2 though a 15 mm game is scheduled for ist sat in February. I have two platoons for COClate war germans and brit pars in 15mm.
I will try to get down and have a look
Is Richard still running it?
yes he is still running it.
next scheduled events are 15 mm SYW mega game sat 18 jan and Kursk 15mm ww 2 sat 1 feb with a mega Bolt action in march
Not sure about January
Years ago when it was in the Scout hut we used to go to Ards played a lot of Johnny Reb with some of the regulars there
I think I will buy CoC in the new year as it seems so much better than Bolt Action
In my opinion anything is better than Bolt Action. Where else do you get a situation where if a sniper takes out the 'gunner' of a team then the whole team is removed without any chance of him being replaced by another member of the team and as for mortars as Mrs Brown might say "Feckin' useless feckers!"
