An AAR of a few games I had over the weekend, especially the 'Battle of Heavenfield' based upon the article in the latest issue of Wargames Illustrated:

8) :-bd
Cheers - Phil.
Great report, nice one Steve.
Just goes to show the premium on decent cavalry!
Very nice 8)
I need to find some time to crack on with my (obviously totally historically accurate =) ) warbands!
Cheers,
Meirion

Definitely!
Although it might have helped Cadwallon's cause more to advance his shieldwall en masse and divide nearer the Saxons. The morale boost of having a noble unit with ordinary troops makes a big difference to an army's go-forward.
Cheers,
Meirion
Looks like a good one to have a go at. Cheers for that.

Sadly Meirion, Cadwallon's Noble unit failed to inspire the 'Rank-and-File' unit two turns in a row, which didn't help :o :(. Also the early loss of leadership points didn't help his cause, especially when Oswald had 8 to start with. This made a big difference and is something to remember for future games.
BTW, glad you all liked the AAR :).
Nice report. I read that article yesterday and will be trying it.
What are you using for the Saxon cavalry you mention you are painting?
Cheers, Colin
Colin has rightly pointed out that the article is in Minature Wargames rather than Wargames Illustrated :-[
As for the cavalry Colin, I'm using the Late Roman Armoured Cavalry with spear and shiel, ARL13. The ones with a crest, I've removed to make them look a bit different from my Romano-British warband, coupled with a different paint job (when I get round to it) on the shields. I'll probably make the horses a different colour as well to make them stand out on the table.

Ah - the Late Romans. They are useful. Thanks.

That was a bit unfortunate :'(

Always nice to see Dux Bellorum hit the table, I might even pick up a copy of the Magazine. Anyone know if it's possible to print from an e-magazine on an iPad?! :-\
