Title: instantmold
Post by: petercooman on 25 November 2013, 03:18:17 PM
Any of you guys know if you can use instantmold on sofy plastic miniatures? Like axis and allies CMG ones?

Or do they get to hot while making the mold?

No, you cannot.
Yes, they are too hot.

And a more pressing issue is that of detail and suitability. Even if you can get the figure in parts it is almost impossible to re-create a mould when the figure has been made in plastic. Source: Experience of the guy casting for me.

Sorry. :-[

You have to leave the instant mould (mold) in very hot (just boiled) water for a minute or more to 'soften' it up Peter.....So it's still too hot to touch with your fingers when you first take it out.....Hmmmm  :-\

Not sure about that one.
Aha.... SBB has just answered

Ok thanks!

HAd thought it was impossible, but just wanted to ask up first.

I'll just have to take the expensive route then  :(

Instantmold isn't that hot as you press it with your fingers on the mini.
Just try it.

I'll try and find any online evidence, maybe someone tried it before.

The reak problem I was highlighting that mould design is significantly different from plastics/ metal and resin. Both Mould material and casting. E.G. what we call Hinterschneidung in German, basically meaning some materials can do things others cannot.

Make sure you use an OLD mini for any experiments.
