Hi
I've been offered a copy of this book, I was just wondering if anybody had any thoughts on it? I usually like to paw my way through a book before I buy but I don't have the chance with this one.
Cheers

Hi,
I've just finished reading this book after a recommendation on the League of Augsburg Forum (where John Childs is
treated with reverence).
It has sections on the major conflicts in the C17th (Thirty Years War and Louis XIV's wars etc) and also looks at more
generic themes (conduct of campaigns, sieges etc).
If you do have an interest in the C17th, I would suggest that this would make an excellent buy (together with anything
else by Childs - he has produced a very good series on the British Army during the reigns of Charles II, James II, and
William).
Cheers,
Phil
Hello Glorfindel, nice first post.
Welcome Gorfindel.
Hi Glorfindel. You snuck in quietly there. Welcome to the forum.
Hi chaps,
Thank you for the welcome ! I don't want to divert the thread but the welcome is much appreciated.
(I'll drop a note on the 'Intros and welcome' part of the Forum later).
Anyway, back on track ! I've just finished a couple of John Childs' books and am currently about to start
a third so thought it would be a good time to move away from 'lurking' status and contribute something.
As far as many people are concerned, I understand that John Childs is a military history 'demi-god' along
the likes of Christopher Duffy and David Chandler so would be well worth the investment.
Cheers,
Phil
