Title: My wife...
Post by: get2grips on 20 October 2013, 06:05:55 PM
Sorry...this isn't a sub-thread of top totty...although...:-\

Seriously though, and I have told her I'm going to do this, my wife said the following earlier...

"Hon (for 'tis my name) is all your scenery at Kev's?"
"Yes (pause for suspicious look) why?"
"Well Joe (2 year old son) was looking at the early learning centre train sets today and he really liked the hills and trees and I was thinking he could use yours..."

This genuinely happened!!!

Now, I would pull my own arm off for my son but, and I will only say this once..."they aren't toys!

So I'm wondering what other STUPID   RIDICULOUS   er...comments have ever been uttered by family members about your collection / hobby?

My ex-wife once told me that I didn't need those Napoleonic Portuguese because I already had lots of tanks.

My wife once said..."Is that all your buying....what about this range?"

She's a keeper!

My wife said. . .

"if I paint all the horses will you paint the Rohirrim shields for me"

"I'm fed up of painting Haldir's elves - they're too damn pretty, the nazgul were easy by comparison"

"What do you mean, do I need another balrog? You've got 6 mumakil. . ."

I'm not sure they are in the same league comment wise but she wasn't happy when one of the cats played with her trees, so she can probably sympathise  :D

I have read all of these to my wife and she said...

"You are like one of those kids at school who hides their work to stop others from copying." :D

Zippee...you should worship your wife :)

My wife reported that my mate's wife once said to her "I just wish he'd give it up". This is a sixty-year-old man who has been wargaming since he was fifteen. Anyone want to give me odds?

Apparently my father told my mother not to worry about my wargaming as it was just a fad boys go through and I'd grow out of it ... about 45 years ago. So, as a 60-year old who's been wargaming since he was about fifteen, I'd say he'll give up wargaming the same week the Devil skates to work  :d :d :d :d

My mum said to me when I was about 15

"you will have to give that up when you get married"...... She got that one wrong.

We went to the Cinema to watch "Troy" When they were trying to storming the walls my  other half leaned across and wispered in my ear "They must have thrown a six!"

As they retreated  she leaned over again and said "now  they have thrown a one!"

I  told my children that "you can never have too many trees" was a truism and explained what it was.  I can now cover - a 6x8 foot table in trees and they refuse to believe that I have enough.

There have been a few occasions where my better half was not understanding my need for miniatures of equipment of any kind. Sadly these "misunderstandings" are always resolved kinda one-sided....

Situation 1

"Did you buy miniatures again?" (wife)
"Bases and Colour from minibits, dear" (me in other room)
"Why is there a naked woman in it?" (w)
"Ehm......Is it Leona Lobo?" (me)
"...." (w)
"How deep am I in trouble?" (me)
"Depends on how much and her brasize" (wife)

Situation 2

"Baba has miniature" (Daughter)
"Again?" (wife) Daughter nodding
"They are old ones dear" (me from the painting table)
Wife threatens physical repercussions, I admit my shortcomings and sleep "in the shed".

Situation 3
"Yes I absolutely need the fourth Viridian Strike Team" (me)
"Then I want a laptop" (wife)

My further arguments that 20 € do not equal 300 and more GBP of electronic equipment were voted inadmissible.

Situation 4

"You WILL do it or I will throw the miniatures" (wife)
"Which one?" (me - not caring if someone dumps my GW stuff)
"The ones you like AND these naked women!" (wife)
-> I complied at once.

My wife (being an artist herself) is very understanding of my modelling needs although she worries it will affect our social standing somewhat (she had to 'admit' to my hobby the other day as a couple of yummy mums were around with kids and one of them located a Typhoon and displayed it for all to see - I asked whether they were impressed with the paint job).

There are no quibbles about my meagre budget either - as she spends £100+ a month on her face I think she feels I'm entitled to it (however the facials are for my benefit apparently)

;D

Yeah, my good lady has had to "explain" the "weird things in the lounge" before.  Mixed reactions on the whole but as all of her friends know I'm "a bit of a nut" (to quote Fenton) they kind of expect it anyway :D

Whenever I complain about yet another dress/blouse/pair of shoes being bought on eBay (with my Paypal account!  >:( ) my better half tells me that she never complains about "those toy soldiers of yours".
I have tried pointing out that she only has one body that needs covering while I have to have a whole army of figures and enough scenery for the world they're going to conquer but that has yet to have any effect.
I am sure that her plan is to gradually fill every cupboard, chest of drawers and flat surface with her clothes so that I have nowhere to stick my figures.  :'(

I fear that your wife, if roused, might riposte that you will always have somewhere to "stick your figures" and indeed, it is not beyond the bounds of possibility that, in a spirit of helpful collaboration, she might tell you where that place is! :) :) :) :-\

She is obviously not a struggling artist then.

However I do not fancy your chances on argueing the money sent on her face. you are in a serious no win situation whatever angle you try to use  ;D

On visiting the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw a few years ago my wife picked out, without prompting, a Scud missile launcher and a Hanomag half-track.

And the Jesuits thought they knew something about indoctrination!  :d :d :d

I doubt mine would manage to identify either, but at least she understands that not every tracked vehicle is a tank (which is better than many journalists). She made me a "That's Not My Tank" book* for my birthday, featuring a bizarre variety of vehicles that weren't tanks, and a Challenger II for the "That's My Tank" at the end. I didn't tell her that I prefer Soviet tanks :-)

My son has a few of these, he loves'em.

FSN's book would be very short:

Page 1  "That's not my tank...it's not a Centurion."
Page 2  "That's not my tank...it's not a Centurion."
Page 3...well you get the idea... :D

Ikea are a bit like Warlord Games. I have had several tanks and armoured cars from them now with tracks for the same side of a vehicle  :( What's more annoying is that they take their time replacing the offending article. They barely admit they are at fault.

Tango Oscar Sierra Sierra Echo Romeo Sierras...  ;D
