Title: Basing SYW limbers and wagons
Post by: kustenjaeger on 14 October 2013, 03:09:37 PM
Greetings

Over the weekend I was basing up various SYW limbers and wagons preparatory to painting them.   All of my bases are 25mm frontage.

Some of the teams, especially the French, with horses harnessed in tandem, are pretty long and I also wanted to use the limbers for different weights of gun as well as not to have too many long bases.

My solution was to have a number of 25mm x 40mm bases:
(a) French limber and one horse, harnessed between the yokes
(b) Wagon with the yokes extending from the front of the base
(c) Two horses in tandem as additional horse team, either for a French limber or to fit into the wagon yokes
(d) Prussian type limber (used for Hessian/Hanoverian etc in this case) with a pair of horses side by side with pole
(e) Pair of horses side by side on a 25mm x 25mm base.

Looks OK at the moment - I'll see how the system paints up in due course.

Regards

Edward

Here's the general's coach on a 30x40mm to give you an idea, and while we're at it a 10mm building, even though usually I use 6mm:

Greetings

Very nice!

I like the civilians too - will have to think about the ones I have in the packet some time.

Sorry to say it was a one-off from Timecast bought at the St. Helen's show in 2010.

Look up your local charity shops - lost count of the number of Michael Winters/ Lilliput Lane/ etc houses I've seen in them. Often for remarkably low prices. Where else can you get a painted ten mill house for a quid?

Indeed - bought a lovely English church with tower in charity shop for £3.

Edward,

My wagon www.michaelscott.name/1809/1809blogpost71.htm (http://www.michaelscott.name/1809/1809blogpost71.htm) is on a 25 x 75mm base, so not far off your two bases combined. For some reason, I like base depths to be multiples of the base width.

Cheers, Michael

Michael

I'll have to use that for inspiration when I paint them!

Mine (as on my flikr site below) are on 80mm x 20mm - mostly because my deployed guns are on 40mm squares and I like the limbered version to have the same area footprint
