Big thanks to Leon and Hinds figures for getting me started in 10mm Dark Ages...
Although I have 15mm Samurai ,crusaders, Romans,Galatians, Egyptians,Celts,Barbarians, blah blah,
25mm Waterloo complete with buildings, some very nice 20mm WW2.(Market Garden)
I thought I would try 10mm, Anyone out there got any tips...I would be glad to hear you...

Hello and welcome.

Is there a big wargaming fraternity in Ghana?

Welcome on board Marie. I lived in Nigeria way back in the early 90's and there was not a sniff of any wargaming there. Maybe some of the Embassies or High Commissions might have some war gamers, so possibly worth a try?

The figs are fine in the heat, normally 33-36 here, but as for the paints its wahalla...trouble.
I use Games workshop paints,(so the fridge comes in handy) local poly filler and static grass for basing, and my last suitcase from the u.k.
was full to the brim, of 15mm zulu/British, rorkes drift etc, 10mm vikings,Huns,Saxons,Byzantiums, and many many bases, no room for my shoes so I left them in the u.k.
I us local Teak, as base boards, 4x4 and 6x4.My staff are amazed I can even see to paint them...I must admit 10mm is a challenge, so I purchased a few painted already, applied sun block and away we go...

Wow, thanks Marie.

People often post pictures of their work stations...paints in the fridge would really win the prize for originality ;)

lol, well I have to to double up my office desk, becomes at lunchtime my painting station,
after 6p.m. its dark here all the time, so lights on full and two spotlights to assist.
220volts is not always that here as power fluctuates...so much...
so because, its my office I have a nice big fridge, containing paints, nail varnish and food,ha,ha

I used to keep nail varnish in my tool box, back when I repaired electronics for a living. We used it to fix the azimuth screw in place on tape decks.

We had wild teak in Nigeria and a I was lucky to have a truly wonderful piece to work with. Happy days :).
Title: Re: Hi from Ghana!
Post by: marie on 13 October 2013, 12:56:05 PM
Yep to all we have teak, mahogany, clear nail varnish makes great varnish, if you run out of Citadel gloss varnish,
prefer matt really, but kinda think shiny gloss is good for 10mm...
And as for super glue, its super sticky in this heat....
The god news is the soil is full of Iron, and is great for basing...
ans of course wall powder (poly-filler to you and I) lol....

I've only just noticed this. Which is usual. If you ever have any orders from Leon I can hand carry them sometimes as I travel to Ghana a lot with work. ahhhh the joys of the Amtrak domestic flights to Takoradi.

Give me a shout if you ever need anything bringing over and I can post it from Ghana when I get there. Might save on post for you.

That's the spirit. Aye.

Step 1) open a Photobucket account (its free)
Step 2) upload your piccies to it
Step 3) select a piccy from your library
Step 4) over on the right of the selected piccy (single pic view) is a list of links to your piccy, left click on the URL box nect to IMG (the last one)
Step 5) go to your post and just type CTRL-V (http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n17/GordonY/desktop_zps8292789f.jpg) (http://s108.photobucket.com/user/GordonY/media/desktop_zps8292789f.jpg.html)
and eh voila, a piccy of my messy painting area

it's really NOT rocket science

Hi Marie.
Just a thought, but if you painted a Zulu army you could possibly use it for historical fantasy as well.  What if Shaka was born 1,000 years earlier or even 2,000?  You could have Zulu impis against Numidians, Carthaginians or even Republican Romans.
Just another daft idea from yours truly.

Rob :D

Smokie, you need more vitamin D,
my zulus are stuck on turn nine as I have placed next to that game, a game of 20mm Afghan wars,
the shelling is causing the impi `s to panic, ha,ha...
Title: Re: Hi from Ghana!
Post by: smokie gunner on 05 May 2014, 01:20:24 PM
Beautiful troops, Marie!
If your Zulus are stuck, concentrate your attack on the short west wall at the Hospital.  The building will only allow limited fire against your charge and cover part of your force.  Once that wall is breached the defenders must pull back to the next mealie bag wall.  In the confusion, if you have simultaneously attacked the adjacent walls, you may be able to catch the defenders in the open before they can pull back.  Historically, this was one of the Zulu tactics, although it didn't work out!

Lovely model, beautiful figs...smashing!
