There were also some fizzy things like large different coloured tablets, but can't remember their name.
Not sure if there was anything I didn't like, after all sweets were a treat in the 50s.

Was there a 'spangles' packet where they were all blackcurrant ?......Or is my old brain playing tricks on me again ?
Cheers - Phil
Phil
Not sure, but I do remember Spangles.
Just remembered the fizzy tablet-like sweets. Refreshers.
Chad
I think most of the sweets we could buy back then you can buy now
I dont think we notice as our bodies wont let us bend that low to the floor anymore to look for them
Tip-Tops, chewing the corner off the plastic wrapper and sucking all the coloured liquid out of the ice as you walked home from school.
Best value for money were American Hard Gums, 4d for a quarter.
Spangles did come in black current flavour, but preferred the acid drop version,
Didn't like Pear Drops. they tasted like polystyrene glue smelt, if that makes sense..
Chris
Favourites
Chlorophyll flavoured chewing gum
Aniseed Balls
Sherbet Lemons

Spangles had a packet of "old English" flavours that contained some slightly odd tastes. They also had a packet of black ones that were billed as "licorice" I seem to remember.
I remember them they were all right.
Ice Breaker was a chocolate bar with minty bits in it that stuck into the lining of your mouth but it tasted ok.
You could also get Aztec in choc form but not for Pendraken ;)
Liked:
Anything coconut: especially coconut tobacco (what were they thinking???)
Anything fizzy (loved sherbert fountains and the liqckureish)
Disliked:
Those rock hard alphabet letters (came in little cube boxes)
Dolly mixture TOO SWEET :-& :-& :-&
I always had a bag of the 1p jelly rings in my pocket during school, used to go buy them at lunch time to keep the energy levels up through the afternoon lessons! Also Boost choc bars, and the pink jelly/white foam milk bottles you get from the Pick'n'Mix. I still get a tub of those for every birthday... :D
I've never been keen on nuts though, so anything peanut-y was out of the question, and also those weird gobstopper-like sweets, where 4 of them were normal and 1 was full of salt water?! No idea whose marketing idea that was. :-q

Now then! Fry's Five Boys was a favourite chocky bar. Those lollipops that were usually white at the top and pastel pink or yellow at the bottom were utter rubbish!

I think over-indulgence is what finally finished off my taste-buds. :(

Always gets a ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D that one.
