Title: What would be your 'Super-Tank'?
Post by: Leon on 01 October 2013, 12:17:58 AM
If you could put together your own 'Super Tank' using attibutes from any existing tanks throughout history, what would you choose?  Armour, weaponry, reliability, etc, etc?

Hull and Turret Merkava IV, Gun British 120 rifle, engine from M1, Fire Control from M1.

Result - very dead Cent, Chieftain, M1, Chally.

Ok my opinion is a bit biased - being hit by hordes of Merkava over the weekend.

Being serious, you have to say you'd like a bit of Merkava.

You need to define what want your SUPERTANK can do.  :) Or what its role will be.

Tanks have three qualities firepower, mobility and protection.

Within the limits of physics and our current technolgy you can emphasise any of these qualities at the expense of others. Tanks are a compromise and you need to know what you want before you design it.

Cheers, Rob  :)

Hull - German Ratte

Main turret and main armament - 'A' turret IJNS Musashi

Close range anti-personnel armament - secondary turrets mounting quad Vulcan miniguns

Short-range surface to air defence - quad Starstreak II mounted on main turret (as per system fitted to the Pinz)

Propulsion - The "Emma Maersk' s" Wartsila-Sulzer Marine Diesel Engine (OK, OK so might be the odd problem fitting it into the hull!!)

Tank design 40k/ Warmachine/ Mechwarrior style :-)

Er... could I just have a large drone with multiple AT missiles so that I can sit three thousand miles away and pick off these steel tortoises in comfort?  ;D ;D ;D

A T35 with Churchill-level armour and a bloody great engine to move it (plus beefed up suspension and a decent intercom system). What it was meant to be when they designed it, basically...

I'll have the 1K17 Szhatie with the antonov a- 40

I fire my lasers onto all of your tanks, then fly up in the sky and watch you all randomly firing (and missing) each other from up high  :D

And if that fails, i'll just have a churchill croc please.
