Ian Heath based his Sergeant-at-Arms (http://warfare.atspace.eu/Medieval2/Feudal-41-Sergeant-at-Arms-13C.htm) on a manuscript of c. 1300 at the time of Louis IX.

Could his source be 'Jonathan killing Philistines and eating honey' in The Queen Mary Psalter (http://warfare.likamva.in/Medieval/Queen_Mary_Psalter-f51.htm) where there are 3 figures on the right, one of whom has a mace, or some other source?

Nice find sir.
I have found a better candidate as the source of Ian Heath's Sergeant-at-Arms (http://warfare2.likamva.in/WRG/Feudal-41-Sergeant-at-Arms-13C.htm)

In an illumination of Louis IX setting out on the Seventh Crusade in a Chroniques de France ou de St Denis (http://warfare2.netai.net/14/Chroniques_de_France-1332-50-404v.htm) are 3 horsemen that fit the description. This is dated after 1332 & before 1350, but if this is not the source then it would be a similar scene in another Chroniques de France ou de St Denis manuscript.
