Title: 10mm Bocage
Post by: sunjester on 08 September 2013, 08:32:25 PM
I've got quite a lot of low walls and hedges, so I thought I'd have a go at making some banked hedges, like Normandy bocage, that will be good for blocking LOS.

They look really good, SJ. What did you make the foliage from?

Incidentally, if you click on the "direct" option in Flickr (Flickr saves the address automatically without your having to do anything else), set up an IMG pair in your forum post by clicking on the "image" icon and then paste the resulting address into them, you'll get the image every time.

Thanks Hertsblue, I'll try that next time.

The foliage is just whatever cheap railway stuff my local arts shop had in stock. It's tiny bits of died foam by the look of it.

Hi SJ,
have you the references of the foliage ?

BH62, I'm afraid not, I chucked the packaging away when I emptied the bag of flock into a box.

Turns out they aren't proper bocage - the earth bank doesn't stop bullets (at least it didn't yesterday  :'(  :'(  :'( )

Bocage would stop artillery shells let alone bullets! Maybe you need a house rule or two?

Plus, when you send you platoon nco to wander around in view of the US mortar team, if they can't see anyone else they play the game of "how close can you drop a bomb to the kraut's head"! 2 wounds on a senior leader, not good in Chain of Command.  :d

A bit more of a Batrep here (LH's game was the second one, with a briefer write up).

That's like using a 105mm Light Gun as a sniper's rifle, as they did in the Falklands.  ;)

Let me define 'Wander around'.  Tucked up by a hedge, which mortars, which I didn't realise he had, ignore.

Well, unless he was the wrong side of the hedge, how would the mortars have been able to see him?

Those hedges allowed you to see, but even if not against them- we assumed low

You'd need ultrasound to see through a bocage hedge - and then you'd have to slap gel on it first.  :o
