Title: Cheer me up please
Post by: Steve J on 31 August 2013, 08:59:06 AM
I'm currently stuck in work for the 13th day in a row (5 more days yet before a break :() and have done nothing but eat, sleep and work in that time. So to cheer me up and show me that real life continues in the outside world, let me know what you are up to on the wargaming front. I'm planning on some nice retail therapy courtesy of Pendraken when at Colours plus getting in some gaming and painting when I finish, so this is helping keeping my spirits up. So now eagerly awaiting your news :).

Thats just pants dude >:(

Is the totty thread blocked as NSFW?

I've been able to get a few games of Chain of Command in which is a blast and have been enjoying the sunshine (even though I have been working too). Its one of the benefits of driving around in an ambulance ;) and its good for Totty Spotting in the town centre... :-[

If you fancy a giggle check out Warlord's Pegasus Bridge set. Beautiful, truly beautiful. But comes at a price way outside the average gamers pocket. Quite how much gaming you're likely to get out of a 5ft bridge I have no idea!

Bad luck sir!

The good news is that when you're freed it will only be 26 days until the October releases from Pendraken!

Been there, done that. Some things in life are bad and they really make you mad...it is true Steve.
Could be worse, after all you can always look at the shiny Penraken goodness and no one can force 28mm "heroic" plastic trash from Nottingham on you...... 8)

Well I'm on a three day long weekend so that should make you happy.  :)

I had an ACW game last night and gave my opponent a right beating.
One of my Confederate brigades cut straight though the middle of his line and captured a Division Commander and his Corps Commander.

This morning I finished painting the ACW unit I've been struggling to finish and just need to do the basing.

Next job is to start some Pendraken ancients I bought recently. I'll make a start on them this weekend.

There's a Dystopian Wars game on my table upstairs with my recently finished Italians managing to beat my Russians. After that I think I'll do a BKC game.

Colours is in two weeks & I hope you and Craig are still putting on the Dux Bellorum game you were talking about a few months ago on Sunday. Unfortunately I've temporarily misplaced my rulebook.

So my weekend looks pretty good. I hope you are happy for me.

Cheers, Colin

I'm on leave next week, and managed to get all my work (except a few minor things) up to date before leaving.  Happy enough thought for you?   :d :d :d

Seriously, what the hell job do you have for 18 days straight?

If it's any consolation, Steve, I've taken some leave - but am in the middle of packing everything up for the house-move...which includes, of course, the majority of my gaming stuff (apart from my emergency box)...so not much fun around here either!

Stress levels are through-the-roof now though as our buyer (who was the one pushing for completion next Friday) appears to be stalling a bit...possibly getting cold feet - which would be a total fecking nightmare...anyway, he's coming here on Monday for "another look"...all appendages crossed...

Yup....
Fingers firmly crossed for you Nik !
Moving's bad enough without people playing silly b's when everything's almost signed and sealed.
Good luck Matey.

Shall I bring the chaps down?

We could strap said scroat to a stretcher and practice cannulation on him for a bit?

Are the people buying your house trying to sell as well?..That usually leads to complications

Thanks for the feedback so far guys :).

Fingers crossed Nik. I hate the whole house selling business in the UK, far too drawn out and stressful.

I work in prototyping for a design consultancy. This is not unheard of by any means, but a perfect storm of factors has meant it is very bad at present. Many years ago I worked 36 hours without a break, after a long week of 12+ hour days. My friend fell asleep driving back up the A4 and only woke up when the car bumped into the central reservation :o.

A colleagues brother works in the oil industry, 3 weeks on, 3 weeks off, but earns £85K per annum! If only I was on half of that it might make it more bearable... :-\

I'm in the middle of painting up lots of Pendraken goodness to stick on single bases for Chain of Command. Of course I've already got "more than I need" painted and based already, but they are on 30x30 bases for BKC.

I also got my first games of Chain of Command in on Wednesday, two games in an evening!

By the way, what is  "more than I need"? The phrase does not seem to compute in my wargamer's brain.

Thanks chaps - this should be the easiest sale ever - cash buyer & we're not buying onwards...we'll see  :)

I'm cautiously optimistic - the fact that he's coming again (from Windsor) suggests that he's still interested & serious...just a final hurdle (I hope)!

If nothing else, we've had a good clearout of stuff - the pain in the ar$3 is that:
- we've had to pay a deposit on rented holiday accommodation (cos I don't need a 6 month rent)
- we've had to pay for storage units - and a load of stuff is in them (50 mile round trip)
- we've started the school-transfer process for 2/3 of kids

So - if it does fall through, I'm going to be less-than-impressed: especially as we have gone with *his* wishes around fast move & completion.

In per school depression, stressing about new classes.
Had a game in Thursday, and playing FOW at Colours, between here and then is a walk up in the local Nationsl a trust woods at Ashridge, an inset day, and many many many hours of teaching and feeling useless about being a teacher.  ;)

Anyone fancy a beer at Colours, or will it turn into the Forum bar fight for real?

Thanks for the offer, Steve.
:-[ I realised later my comment about misplacing my rulebook could appear to be fishing to have a go in your game, which I know is a Demo game. That wasn't my intention; I just wanted to refresh my memory so I would have a better idea what was going on. I've found my book now.
I hope to be at Colours with my wife and if so we'll come and say hello in any case.

No wargaming for me tomorrow. Other commitments. Have another nice day at work.  :P

This year I will try and find time to say hello as we are on the same floor. Fingers crossed our demo games should be quite short so plan to have more time to have a good wanbder of the show. Well that's the plan anyway.

Colin, you and your wife are welcome to join in a bit if you want. It's a demo game I know but always fun to share the joy/pain of a game with fellow forum members. We just don't want any riff raff at the table :D ;).

I'm using some of the Pendraken Late Roman codes to make a Goth 1000pt starter army for Warmaster Ancients

True, and at the time her painting was better than mine. I think mine has improved since then.

I'm at the end of my second week leave, and have another one yet to come. After that it's back to shifts like 3 years ago  :(

If you have been on 9 to 5 hours for years it's a tough nut to crack.

Anyway i am busy painting the last of my german infantry. Then i will base them and afterward speedily paint the next batch of british stuff, ready for a BKC game in three weeks (beach landing huzzah!)

Cheer you up Steve!

For painting: I'm trying to end some fantasy figures half painted, some lizards, and then start some units of ottoman 16cent.
For gaiming: Maybe a play in Xmas. Having my regular opponent to 600 km and no one playing around, it is difficult to play.
Other proyects: edit Warmaster & 10mm digest nº2 when the articles come.
For Rules: still loving warmaster but searching a ruleset for steam punk gothic era.

All of this is great but now I have a son of 3 months so I do not have to much time for the hobby (and also do not have to much time to sleep also :) )

Fingers crossed I'm off from Thursday for over a week with all my TOIL that I've accrued :). Can't wait. I've got loads of stuff planned but "The best laif plans of mice and men..."

If you're really working 18 consecutive days you need to read this:

Unless, of course, you're self-employed.

From memory the 40 hour thing is based upon an average working week spread over 3 months or so. It's a while since i checked mind. Anyway, my boss is back so some of the pressure is off but I'm frankly rather fatigues to put it mildly. Just thinking of all the gaming stuff I've got planned is keeping me going...

Quote

  • a limit of an average 48 hours a week on the hours a worker can be required to work, though individuals may choose to work longer by "opting out"
  • 5.6 weeks' paid leave a year
  • 11 consecutive hours' rest in any 24-hour period
  • a 20-minute rest break if the working day is longer than six hours
  • one day off each week

Mwahahahahaha!   =O

I'm guessing none of that applies to being self-employed then...  :-\
