Title: simultaneous wargames rules - free if your interested!
Post by: warboards on 18 August 2013, 09:51:59 PM
Hi everyone,

I'm pretty new on here but I wanted to let anyone who is interest know about a set of rules I have written.

The rules are called empire & hordes and are written based on all the action occurring simultaneously rather than the usual "I go then you go" mechanic.

Pendraken have kindly given me permission to use this forum to let you know about them.

The rules are based around my collection of 10mm pendraken miniatures, but can be easily adapted for other scales or even counters.

The story behind all of this is as follows:

1 - I used to play a lot of games workshop games but was interested in historical.
2 - I came across pendraken miniatures which opened my mind to the possibilities of 10mm wargaming.
3 - I started playing warhammer historical ancient battles rules but with 10mm pendraken miniatures (using cm instead of inches).
4 - Warhammer historical updated their ancient battles rules which I thought where overly complicates with to many "exceptions to the rule" and not fun.
5 - I wrote my own set of rules that we use at my local games club.

so,

If anyone is interested in reading a set, I have a limited number to give away. Or if you have any questions then send me a message!

I look forward to hearing back from some of you (hopefully).

thanks

imp

Morning Imp ;)

I'm guessing these are ancients rules based on mention of WAB and the posting in the Ancients section?

Not my period but good luck with getting them out there. I am sure there are plenty here who would love to bung dice at them!

Hi all,

yes sorry, I should have mentioned the vital detail that these rules have been written for Roman Vs Barbarian (Western Europe 50 BC - 500 AD).

however I am going to follow up with an English Civil War version and then ancient Greeks.

Send me a private message with a postal address and if you play at a club (and which one) and I'll send you a copy.

you can also e-mail me at war_boards@yahoo.co.uk

Thanks

Iain @ warboards.

Hi all,

A hint on the mechanics for you:

1 - based upon events unfolding simultaneously.
2 - order counters.
3 - D8s.
4 - Fog of War cards.
5 - you can roll lots of dice, but only need to roll them once to determine a result.
5 - lots of death.

Is there a particular reason you're only mailing out hard copies as opposed to electronically?

Just wondering how simultaneous action works in your system. Do you write orders, issue order chits, alternate activation, etc?
