Title: Trains
Post by: parkerm17 on 16 August 2013, 10:09:24 AM
I am just starting ACW with the new figures and already game WW1 Palestine and Mesopotamia as well as the late C19 Colonial wars.   The one thing missing for them all are the railways - one train per period and some basic rolling stock, perhaps a flat car and a box car that in this scale could be common to all the periods that interest me would be all that is really needed.   Is there any chance?

It's been asked before, best bet is to check out second hand model railroad items and the 'Del Prado' plastic loco's (one of which is 'The General'). Also, there are some in the Boer War range.

Since 10mm is about 1/150 scale, it's a pretty good match with N scale railroad stuff. And there were some Del Prado plastic locos made some time ago that are still very easy to find on eBay.

It's a requests that comes up every so often, but the costs of modelling and moulding trains very rarely justify the potential sales on them.  There are quite a few options in 'N' gauge railways though, as OldenBUA mentions, so that could be worth a look?

We are working on some WW1 railguns though.

There's plenty of goodies out there in model railway world,-locomotives by Atlas.box cars, flat cars and cabooses by Micro Trains,(ready to run). Boxcars and coaches,(3 D printed) by Panamint models.              Republic Locomotive Works produce laser cut box cars, flat cars stock cars and way cars.
Panamint do not supply wheels,Republic don't supply bogies or couplings, both are available  from Micro Trains, they also  do a nice range of Civil war railway related laser cut buildings. Micro Scale have a nice range of transfers , USMRR, Western & Atlantic and Georgia RR,
Hope this is useful.

WWI Railguns!

=P~

I've been trying to avoid WWI. I couldn't decide between the basically C19 early war period, which to me has French infantry in red and blue, and the later very C20 period when the French had changed to the much more subtle horizon blue.

In the end, I've spec'd up both, of course. However, I have very easily put them to the back of my list, preferring to concentrate on WWII and slightly later conflicts. Rail guns would be an interesting objective. Add in some aircraft (Red Eagle?) and you've got a game!

The Del Prado trains are very cheap and after a matt spray to take away the plastic sheen come up really nice

Likewise a few trips to model railways exhibitions to pick up 2nd hand N scale terrain can soon enhance your wargames table

I've picked up a couple of Del Prado C19th European engines from ebay as well as some N Guage rolling stock - all very reasonable and to be honest looks better than a metal cast wargames model
