Title: August Releases!
Post by: Leon on 01 August 2013, 02:48:24 AM
This month we've got a random assortment of 23 new codes, covering ranges from the Ancients to WWII!  A lot of these are filling important gaps, with more ECW and ACW infantry, limbers for both the ACW and Napoleonic Austrians, and some mounted Generals for the Republican Roman and Carthaginian ranges.  Fighting the 20th Century corner are some additions to the WWII Russians, with both the T-20 and T-60's now available.

Plus there's a load of extra codes, which have been done through the Techno / Pendraken / customer triangle, so it's good to see that working effectively.

We're hoping to take it up to Claymore with us to pass over to Kallistra for a low-temp moulding, so we'd probably be picking up the new mould at Colours most likely.

Well it saves me from having to grind the pack bags and stuff off of the pack cames that I just purchased. So more pack camels and another bag to buy!  This goes witht eh 60 other Fuzzy Camels I have to paint the 15 British Camels I need to convert to Egyptian, 15 Pack camles, and the 15 sitting camels.  OMG I have a fixation with Camels!   :D

SC22 - Standing camel

One lump or two?

I'm assuming the Dromedary variety

Can we have a conversion pack that replaces the one lump with two?

Hi

Good news about the T-20 Komsomolets tractor. Any thoughts on using the running gear to make the T-38?

No plans at the moment, but certainly something to look at.

Just infantry, the command are still the existing codes, which are all newer sculpts as well anyway.

When the Centurion is released, whom are you lot going to take the mickey out of?

The Dark Lord knows my pain, and if I have faith in him, and every month show my devotion on Pendraken Ordering Day, he will reward my patience with access to an abundance of Centurions.

Title: Re: August Releases!

Well, initially a squadron - say 15 - for the Brits in Korea.

I have it in the back of my mind to look at doing something for the 1973 Arab-Israeli wars, but that would need the T54/55 and some other stuff that would be way down the line.

I said "P. R. I. N. T. E. D. I. N. S. H. E. F. F. I. E. L. D."

There is a certain spy-like quality to this message. Masters cunningly concealed in champagne corks taken by Oh-Oh-Leon resplendent in hand stitched DJ, pure white South Sea Island cotton shirt, immaculately tied bow tie, and wellies. He glides through the Claymore crowd like a sleek, hungry shark amongst middle aged puffer-fish. His eyes take in all, and miss nothing, searching restlessly for his contact. She's easy to spot. The only female in the crowd. The red dress slashed to the waist in both directions helps. It sets off her figure better then flocking on a base of FA1s. She seems nervous. Probably all the attention she's getting. She licks her lips, redder than Vallejo 72086.

From across the room, Oh-Oh-Leon spots the movement and he unobtrusively changes his direction towards her. He says the key phrase. "Can't beat a climbinarii on a downward incline." She'd heard that phrase a dozen times today, so she hesitates. He repeats the phrase, urgency in his voice. She looks into his eyes. Could he be the one? Surely yes, there's purpose there, determination and just a hint of cruelty. She takes a chance and utters the response.

"I like a good Cataphract on the flat." Even before the words are said, Oh-Oh-Leon gabs her by the elbow and steers her to a more secluded spot - the Pithead Miniatures stand. He glances around. No one is paying any interest. He presses the corks into her hand. "Go!" He commands.

His animal power overwhelms her. She feels so weak and yet protected in his grasp. She looks up at him with eyes bluer than Citadel Altdorf Guard blue, and whispers "is this all there is? Don't we have time for more?" Her lips have dried and she licks them, unaware of the effect it would have on any red blooded male, but Oh-Oh-Leon is a man on a mission.

"Dammit, we may have to do some Oxford carriers, and perhaps some Chinese infantry, but this will have to do for now. I just hope this will keep FSN off our backs for a while."

"No," she gasped, "I mean with us. I am just a drop off point to you?"

"Do your job. Then we'll see." On impulse, he bends to kiss her, crushes her lips to his, grasping her body to his, feeling her go limp with the passion. Almost angrily, he breaks off.

"Go. Get those to those that need them - and for God's sake, don't leave them in a toilet on the M6." He turns and moves away. She keeps her eyes closed until she can no longer hear the squelch of his wellies. She opens them, and through the tears that have formed, she watched his retreating back, so strong, so erect in the dinner jacket.

"Wonder why he didn't wear trousers."

I, as a good and faithful servant of the Dark Lord, have recognised Pendraken Ordering Day again yesterday, and hope that my unworthy offering may cause the Dark One to nod his fearful head and so command his lower orders to create for us (the currants in the Pendraken cake) that which so far he has turned his saturnine face against: the Unattainable, that Which May Never be Cast, VV9, the Centurion!

So, if he who holds the happiness of we (the pricks on the Pendraken hedgepig) who know his majesty should see fit to allow the Centurion to be cast, I, mere supplicant that I am would forever sing his praises.

Title: Re: August Releases!
Post by: fsn on 09 August 2013, 10:28:17 PM
Right ...

It is known across all the lands where man has learned the noble arts of the table-game that the Dark One is all powerful. He sits on a dread throne made from the discarded masters and moulds that found no favour in him, upon a pile of bones made from the sculptors who displeased him. His is the power to release new Pendraken goodliness to the world, examining each offering brought to him by quaking sculptor-dwarves before either nodding his gigantic head which the wretched artisan understands is not only approval of the product, but also continuation of existence, or frowning his displeasure in which case the doomed dwarf is cast into the endless stream of molten metal that flows beneath the casting-throne.

All this is well known. All of us (the spear carriers on the Pendraken stage) know the tales of the Dark Lord and his naked goings-on with left to his own devices, and the fear that he inspires in his malformed minions. However, what is not known is that the Dark Lord bows before one even more powerful. He is known to the select few who have studied the blood-runes carved with extreme precision upon the toilet walls of the Pendraken foundry-dungeon. Those who have cogitated these runes can never tell the full story of the magnificence of he who is known only at the Darker (And Very Experienced) Lord.

It is said that the Darker Lord has known and forgotten ancient and mystic arts that the Dark Lord has never even heard whisper of. The Darker Lord is skilled in all the Pendraken arts, and can sculpt so beautifully that those who see his work can do naught but weep at the beauty, he can cast with a precision that no mortal can reproduce, and with a speed that no mortal eye can catch. He is immune to burns from any liquid metals, and has been known to bathe in molten silver. The Darker Lord is all-knowing: he knows his Assyrian from his Longbow, his knowledge of all things martial is unparalled in all the scales. He even knows about the periods that have not been, nor shall ever be, but will be popular next year.

It is said that the Darker Lord was the fouder of the Evil Empire, and that for many years he sat in uncomfortable power there until he looked one day over acres of his works in uniform ranks and ungainly poses, and he knew that his work was corrupt and impure. Before he permitted the sun to set that day, the Darker Lord had turned his back on his creation and turned his face to the true scale. Of course, the Evil Empire still exists, but it is a body without a brain. The sculpt-gnomes there go through the motions and still produce much, but without the Darker Lord to direct them, their work is foul and lifeless.

But amongst the select few who know the tuth of the Darker Lord, the most significant features of the Darker Lord are his compassion, and his love for post-war British armour. The Darker Lord would not abide the agonising waits that the Dark Lord foists upon we wretches (the grit in the Pendraken budgie-cage). The Darker Lord belies his name with his sweet disposition to those who have shown patience in their vigils, and especially to those who have shown a true love of armoured vehicles who may be (accidentally or deliberately) confused with a much older, low level officer class.

So today I sing hymns of praise to the Darker Lord, I chant paeans of hope to his saturnine majesty and I recite lyric poems celebrating his aphotic greatness. If he should see to recognise my efforts with some small reward then I, unworthy that I am, would be uplifted by his munificence.

Personally, I think in the unlikely event a Centurion tank is ever produced, that it should only be available as a part work.  Each month you get a piece of a tank and a fascinating 20 page magazine.  Part One is Commanders Vision block and FREE firing button.  Look out for part 2 (3rd left hand road wheel) and 3 (Gun mantle)

Now there's a cracking idea!  There's enough parts across the various marks, so we could get at least a years worth out of it!

Or more seriously, we could release one mark per day for x number of days?

Speaking of Aztecs, does anyone remember the "Deadliest Warrior" series? It took two warriors from the past and pitted them against each other. I remember Pirate vs Knight, William Wallace vs Chaka Zulu and was miffed when the Viking lost to someone or another.

The ferocious Jaguar Warrior had his backside handed to him by an African warrior, whose war cry I seem to remember was "yum yum". Scary.

Also, whilst I'm meandering down this lane, does anyone remeber a game show featuring the Army? Every week a pair of bttns would go up against each other is fine military skills. I always liked the 2" mortar. Couldn't do it now of course. Not enough bttns left for a series!

I do remember that, but I can't remember what it was called. I seem to recall being impressed there was some sort of mechanism for suppressive fire. Can't remember the details, but it meant that they couldn't ignore fire directed at the wall they were hiding behind.

Wasn't it a samurai? Closest to a 50-50 match out of all of them though IIRC.

The one I only saw about 5 minutes of it, but remember vividly was Spetsnak vs Green Beret. The experts looked like they would happily have sorted it out there and then given half a chance...

I've fixed it for him now.  I'm guessing you've got some kind of countdown pic system you're doing for fsn (which is pretty cool if so!)?  The web address for the current one looks to be http://phillipsuk.org/tmp/fsn.php so if you upload the new picture to that same location each day, it should automatically update his profile for him?

It's a simple PHP script that creates a .png image from the picture of the centurion, plus generated text, then returns the image. In normal HTML, you'd use something like this to display the image:

<img src="http://phillipsuk.org/tmp/fsn.php">

My guess is that the forum copies the avatar image, and so it shows whatever text was generated when the image was copied. I'm also guessing that an image in a signature won't be copied, so it'll get updated automatically.

Edited to add: I've just done a quick check, and can confirm that the image in the signature will update automatically

It's a simple PHP script that creates a .png image from the picture of the centurion, plus generated text, then returns the image. In normal HTML, you'd use something like this to display the image:

<img src="http://phillipsuk.org/tmp/fsn.php">

My guess is that the forum copies the avatar image, and so it shows whatever text was generated when the image was copied. I'm also guessing that an image in a signature won't be copied, so it'll get updated automatically.

Edited to add: I've just done a quick check, and can confirm that the image in the signature will update automatically

Thanks for the info, the avatar image requires an address to look for it, but it must make a copy and store it on the forum server, as you say.  I've just noticed the one in his signature now, so all sorted!

There's still the D-46 one on your avatar fsn, do you want that changing to something else now?

Do you think Border Reivers might have anything to do with it?  Or it being a Sunday?  Oh, tempora, oh mores!   :-\

You'd think one of the Leon clones could have been designated.

Still, it's probably going to be the long awaited LoA "latrine diggers", and the "dragoons with the hats tilted at a jaunty angle" to compliment the "dragoons with the hats dead straight". Possibly the "Grenadier with a slight nose itch" and "Musketeer with a sudden queasy feeling" that are requirements of the "Palatinate Japes" ruleset ("Leopold edition").

:P

Still, only 30 days to the next release date!

<Dunno why I keep taking the Michael out of LoA, there's only 42 codes in the old + the new ranges.>

They were in Gateshead so the clones been stolen, mugged or in some other way distracted by the exotic Gateshead atmosphere and the real Plumb Lord has not awoken from his Lordly slumber.
  So now after me. . . .
WAKE UP PLUMB LORD
WAKE UP!
