Title: Somewhere in Russia
Post by: Ithoriel on 08 July 2013, 09:19:23 PM
Almost 9 years after first putting paint on these I've finally finished four Pz IVHs and an HQ Stand - I think I need to speed up my painting rate :)

Don't think I'm going to make a living as a photographer, much of the highlight detail has vanished in the photo. There again I'm probably not going to make a living as a painter either!

Thanks for the kind remarks - always very motivating

A further couple of shots. First of the HQ Stand - group of officers with a Pz IV. I'm planning similar "clutter" on further HQ and CO stands - kettenrads, AA guns, kubelwagens, tables, radio trucks, etc.

The house is a sub-Michael Winters ornament, bought ready painted from a local charity shop - the source of much of my Warmaster scenery - for 75p. Following petercooman's example here :) Sadly there's not so much by way of bunkers, ruins and Russian farmhouses in that line  ;D

Tigers next up!

If you're anything like me the decals will be the thing that takes longest. I spoil two for every one I get on the model.  :'(

I only spoiled one for the entire army, and that's because i found it too smaal, took it off and choose a bigger size  :D

One tip for small scale decals, is to put a drop of water on your cutting mat, then put the cut out decal in this drop - then you don't have the problem of chasing the decal around a saucer of water.

Micrsol solution is also good - and 1 bottle lasts forever.

Actually, i just take a fairly large brush, dip it in the water, and while holding the decal next to the preferrred spot on the model, i push the brush against the paper, wetting the decal. I then just wait until it comes loose and slide it right into place.

Better method, dont use them, just paint something approximately the right shape and colour, looks crap in a close up piccy, but looks fine on the table.

Progress.

4 Tigers completed - one more than I can have in a BKCII battlegroup of any size - doh!

Also 4 Sdkfz 251s which I'd forgotten I'd painted and that I found while looking for something else!

Happy with the Tigers but not so sure about the tiger stripe camo on the halftracks but ... they're painted. Which is more than can be said for most of my WW2 10mm stuff.

9 stands of infantry - basic troops for my Panzergrenadier Battalion - undercoated. Progress likely to be slow on these due to Real Life (tm) commitments but hopefully not as slow as it has been to date. At least 1st Company has some nice Hannomags to ride around in. Opel Blitz trucks for the rest to be painted later.

Nice!!!

ps: you can always rebase your tiger and put him on a hq base, to command your tiger platoon ;)

and btw, did you put the commanders on the tigers yourself? I have a pendraken tiger too, and he came without the commander ,??

The tigers were bought off EBay and marked as Pendraken. Never thought to check that they were.  :-[

The commanders are certainly part of the casting.

Oh well, never believe what you read online I guess.

Not sure though, maybe there are 2 different versions, let's wait for Leon to shed his light :P

All our tank commanders come as separate castings, so they wouldn't be ours if they're part of the casting.

Look good, but 'clean'...being a fan of all things dirty, I'd (paradoxically) give 'em a wash to add some depth & filth...and stipple some mud over the tracks and lower hull...

Try lightly dry-brushing the entire model in a slightly lightened version of the base-colour. Brings out the detail through the camo.

Nice work, i've never painted cammo but it looks good to me, think i'd prefer the dirty look though if they were mine,
