Title: FPW Bavarian Cheveauleger
Post by: Shecky on 19 June 2013, 03:51:18 AM
We're the Bavarian cheveauleger uniforms blue or green during the FPW. For some reason I thought they were blue and just started painting a unit. However I'm seeing images on Mr. Google showing them in green coats. If they're blue, I'm happy. If they're green, I'm not repainting them  :'(

Well I'll be a  mortar puss bucket.  :'(

I'm too far into painting them to fix them. They will have to be the "Mad King's Own Cheveauleger"

I knew I should have done my research BEFORE painting them.

Tends to be most effective that way.

I do so much research that I rarely get anything painted though so swings and rounabouts maybe.

Saxon Reiters were in cornflower (ie Bavarian) blue, pass them off as a regiment of ectopic Saxons.

You could get away with them as Saxons, but not Bavarians. The Bavarian uhlans also wore green but the Bavarian cuirassiers did wear cornflower blue.

Do we dare mention collar, cuffs and piping?

I went with plaid trousers, aquamarine cuffs and hot pink boots!  ;D

I found and image to use as a model so I think I'm good for now. I hadn't painted any FPW figures in about 9 months but decided to start reducing my lead pile as I've grown tired of painting 28mm figures for Saga. I was so eager to paint 10mm again that I forgot to check the proper uniform colors. I had based a brigade of infantry and a regiment of cavalry - started to paint the corn flower blue infantry and kept with the same color when I got to the cavalry. Then I started thinking, "they don't look like cheveauleger" and thus this thread was started.

Is this why in landlocked Bavaria they say, 'Ooh, soldier!'

Well, they're a doomed unit. I finished painting all the Bavarians last night and prepared to base them today. As I was going to pick up one group of figures on craft sticks, I accidentally bumped one stick holding the cheveauleger. They fell on the tile floor and now I have a number of figures with chipped paint and slightly flattned crests.

They will probably become the luckiest unit you use. if they need a 6 then a 6 will appear, if its a 1 required then hey presto a 1.
Many years ago a friend showed me his beautifully painted and based airfix hussars, best stuff he'd ever done to that point, i happened to mention the green coats, "No they are red", no they were green. . .opps. He was slightly colour blind and had mistaken the print colour. still they looked great and always gave good service on the table. What more could you ask for? ;)
