Post by: crancko on 14 June 2013, 06:48:06 AM
I would like to see people playing Pony Wars ruleset with this new 10mm range of Plains wars.

What other ruleset will you use?

Use Pony Wars. Great game, played it in 15mm with loads of substitutes. Need a 10mm stage coach, any forthcoming ?  what about a Dando figure.
Lent my set to a mate....never seen them again same old story. :(

Hi zaapark

Yes, Pony Wars has been out of print for a long time and there is always some talk of it being revised and reprinted. I had a look through the various sites that sell out of print stuff and it really has disappeared, probably only available in the dark netherworld of PtP  :).

If you're looking for the solo play aspects of them then you can have a look at Science vs Pluck http://www.tinywars.com/download-page (http://www.tinywars.com/download-page) from the Free Wargames Rules page and modify them for the West.

If you're after other western rules there is no better place to start looking than http://www.erichotz.com/game_rules1.html (http://www.erichotz.com/game_rules1.html)

Cheers

Warning - new rules plug

Battles for Empire version 1 has a variant and a scenario for the Plains War on their yahoo group - http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/BattlesForEmpire

BFE is a generic set of colonial rules covering the period 1870-1914

Units are 4 bases strong and represent European companies and squadrons and tribal equivalents so it maybe it is too high level for what you want. However the new version includes rules for platoons &  sections.

I've used it for the Zulu War, the Sudan, the Spanish American War and the Russo-Japanese War and it's worked well for all of them. Native armies have a good chance of winning.

Chris Leech has just released version 2 of BFE - they are available to buy either as a PDF or on CD at http://hotzartworks.com/bfe.html

pony wars! I have a set and all the event cards  made out on index files never got round to collecting the figures 10mm seems to be a good scale for doing so if only someone did the 'dando' lone ranger and tonto figures. I even have ulster imports @continually wear the blue rules somewhere too.

Hi, late to the show but Continually Wear the Blue is a supplement for Yellow Ribbon by the late Greg Novak. Great set of rules! You have little control over your Indian warbands. RAFM in Canada has Yellow Ribbon for sale. They have a 35% off sale that ends today too.

Thanks,

John
