Title: Seasons of War: Days of the Conqueror released on Wargame Vault
Post by: scale neutral on 12 June 2013, 09:44:33 AM
Seasons of War: Days of the Conqueror is now available to buy via Wargame Vault!

'Seasons of War: Days of the Conqueror is a unit based miniatures game that allows players to represent battles fought in and around the time of Duke William II - the man who would eventually take the English crown in 1066 and be immortalised as 'The Conqueror'.

The rules are designed to be streamlined and easy to learn but also allow players to replicate battle strategies used throughout the period. As you lead your 11th Century army, you will need to outsmart and outfight your rivals whilst maintaining discipline in your own ranks. The season of war is upon you; will you be the conqueror or the conquered?'

Could these be used for earlier periods? I'm thinking 5th to 6th century, Early Saxons vs Sub Roman British, I've been playing the two Dux rules and I'm looking for summat to handle bigger armies.

And what is the basing system? I notice that rules summaries rarely give the basing system used and yet it is one of the crucial features of a game's mechanics. At this stage of my wargaming career precious time used in rebasing figures is a massive no-no.

Hi guys, thanks for asking.

Although there is no hard and fast basing rules, I have suggested in the rules that 40x20 i.e. warmaster ancients style basing would work best. So long as you and your opponents base the same, there should be no problems.

As for earlier periods, yes, rules wise, you could certainly use them for the period you had in mind. At the moment there is no specific army list for Sub-Romanos/Romano Brits however, given the popularity of this period, I will certainly be releasing a free downloadable supplement to support specific armies in this period.

Hope that answers a few questions!
Thanks,
Ian

This sounds good as I will also have post-Romans based up for DBA and don't mind adding more bases to play a big game.

Has anyone managed to have a look at the rules yet? Any thoughts?

Just a quick post full to follow. Ive had the pleasure  of having some photos of my Anglo Saxons in the book(Pendraken of course :)) And received a copy of the rules the other day (thank you) and I must say these appear to be a breath of fresh air and the production level of the book is great. I've had a couple of read through's and tinkered with a few stands to see how situations pan out.I will be playing a couple of games in the coming days and will be putting up a full review on my Blog. But I can say with what I've seen so far, I don't think the 10mm community will be disappointed.  :) :) :)

I've got some pics of my Vikings with a few Anglo-Saxons in the book as well Jason :). A nice advert for Pendraken me thinks. From a quick glance the rules look good but too much other stuff going on at present to really give them a proper read through :(.

Well, I'd of course be interested to consult players as to what they are looking for from the list, but in theory not too long at all!
If you have any thoughts, either email me at ihannam@gmail.com or head to the redwyverngames forum!

Thanks

Greetings

I picked up a copy of this (and of the spaceship game Engage) at Valhalla today following a brief demo of some of the mechanisms.   Looks interesting with a number of scenarios each based on an 11th century battle.

Regards

Edward

Read through the rules, you might want to think about a printer friendly PDF, I'm actually afraid to even start printing it, it is a lush ruleset, very nicely laid out with some nice eye-candy as well, but in its present state it would drink a couple of cartridge sets. Any discount for PDF owners on the printed version?

Hi Gordon, thanks for the feedback, I believe a print friendly version of the rules is in the works. Do you have an email address I can contact you on regarding discount?
