Mollinary
I still hate you Kev, I really do ;). I can only echo Mollinary's comments 8).
Those are brilliant, Kev. Justice has been done to great figures. =D>
They look amazing! =D>
Super sculpts as well.
Beautifully done 8)

Splendid :)
Fantastic work, first painted examples of these I've seen so far as well!

Superb !
Brilliant Kev. Would like to see more - and see if you like the different way of basing colours
best Wishes DaveL
Kev, magnificent painting and sculpture. I wait to receive my owne LoA cavalry and I look forward to beginning to paint them. What is the used wargame rule for these stands ?
BH62
Stunning - hard to believe they are only 10mm and not 28mm
Brilliant.
I'm becoming quite a fan of Kev, these are beautifully done. Well done.
You should autocontrast the photos...
Brilliant. Absolutely fantastic work!
Thank,s chap's, will give it a go Barbarian and see if it get.s any better,

Stunning!
I still am amazed at how members of this forum can turn out 10mm figures of such (and there is no other word for it) beauty.
Each one of those is an individual piece of art.
Love them, they look great

Very nice as always!!!
By the way Kev, where are the other 39 figures of the pack and a half? :-\ ;)
Mollinary
Cheer's chaps, really enjoyed doing these, excellent sculpts as always.
The other 39 are awaiting basing Mollinary, i have a commission in the pipeline for a French army and it's going to be based for Maurice , but not sure what base sizes he's going to use yet but i couldn't resist finishing these :D.
Many thank's

Hmm, a commission for Maurice, eh? I have an Austrian and a Prussian army painted by Clib, and as far as I can see, the cavalry and artillery are perfect for Maurice, but the infantry require one extra base of four figures per battalion to convert them. Perhaps you might be interested in trying to match Clib's painting and basing? I would be delighted to get these on the table. I can send samples for each battalion, if you are interested.
Mollinary
Hi Mollinary,
Yes i would be interested in doing them for you, it will be a challenge to match Clibs work. I'll have to speak nicely to him for his colours :D.
kev
Great news Kev! That will mean I can put together one of those figure orders that Leon loves so much, 4-8 (well maybe 8-12) figures from about 20 different codes :D :D :D :). Will have to wait for next week's return to UK to get out the boxes and see what is needed.
Mollinary
Somewhere, in the heart of the north, a small figure producer is gibbering behind his casting machine, clutching the codes for the LoA and muttering to himself "Not a Mollinary order, not a Mollinary order!" ;D :d

OK mr pedant ;D L-of-A :)
I would also like to do the later 30 years war French and Spanish era (Conde/Turrenne) and the Spanish Fronde, the latter a sort of inbetween war betrween Spain and France.
It does seem that military fashions were steadily changing during this time with real men insisting you need very large cuffs towards the end. Does any one know the time period when large cuffs became common? :-\ The point being that if it was in the 1650's then the L-of-A matchlock and pike figures in hats will be useful. I think the cavalry will be perfect.
Any thoughts ? :)

Fantastic work!
Another vote for the lighter bases - superb!
Mollinary
And he has even painted the horses eyes :o. Wonderful work as always but my hatred of you continues to grow... ;).
Thank's for all the comments chaps, definitely going with the lighter base colour. i'm becoming addicted to LoA, looks like i'll be spending more money than i thought :).

Superbly done, Kev, superb 8)

Cheers - Phil.
Nice, Kev. Very, very nice. :)
Stunningly beautiful work
Inspiring stuff
Those blue coated cavalry are just superb, just how I envision my own looking, should I ever get a chance to paint them.
I would certainly encourage Kev painting Mollinary's SYW figures. Our styles are very similar, indeed to match my SYW would require an even simpler process than than applied to these LoA figures, they were just bold colours blocked over black undercoat, no shading.
Actually I owe Mollinary a big apology for not being able to paint extra figures for him. He bought my SYW armies, which helped me out of a jam at the time, and I've wanted to accommodate him in filling out the ranks. However my regular sculpting work has kept me under so much pressure, that I've been unable to do so (even getting 10mm sculpting done is difficult), and I feel pretty bad about it. So if Kev and Mollinary can work something out that would be three of us delighted. If I can help with info about how I did them I'll do so of course.
Again Sorry to Mollinary
Thank's Clib,
yes i will consult you on Mollinarys SYW if that's ok, i'm sure we can get them done between us. These are superb sculpts, a joy to paint.
I have just finished the cav for this army so thought i'd share some pics, might take the weekend off before i start the inf as it's almost 40 degrees here and my paint's drying out quicker than i am , must be beer time ;D,

Those look fabulous. No apologies are necessary from Clib, you made it perfectly clear what the situation was when I bought the figures. But I really appreciate your offer to help Kev out when he gets the extra figures. That, and the painted and based examples, should help a lot. Of course, it all depends on when Leon gets that strange little order to me! ;) :-\ 8)

Kev,
That is a lovely regiment, nice basing, excellent attention to detail. Love the feathers on the edge of the officer's hat! One extra thing you might like to consider, the colour of your pike staffs. When I was doing my ECW figures I was very unhappy with the look that painting them dark brown gave, so considered the alternatives. I saw some photos, of re-enactors I think, where the pikes were a much lighter, almost buff colour (think plank). I tried this, and the results I found very pleasing. I now have about 1500 of them, and a goodly number of 6mm ancients, and I wouldn't go for anything else. Of course a lot of it is personal taste, but I think the lighter colour has a similar effect to that offered by the lighter basing - it lifts the overall effect. Worth a try?
Mollinary
Pikes and spears would have been made from ash, which is a very light coloured wood. I've painted my Dux Bellorum spears a light colour to reflect this but to also make them stand out a bit more for purely aesthetic reasons.
Cheers for the comments chaps, Mollinary/Steve, a good point, just sent pics to the will be owner and he's very happy but as it's only 3 units i have painted so far out of 12 it may be worth a try with lighter, thanks for the info,
kev
Really beautiful, Kev. As usual.
Kev,
Just catching "Troy" on TV. Not exactly a great authority for ancient and later pikes(!) but if you want to see what I mean about lighter pike shafts, it has them by the CGI thousand!

Very wisely too.
The Spanish irregulars were wearing wide floppy straw hats in the Napoleonic period, I believe, so I wouldn't rule out a sombrero style for the earlier period.
Another master-class in the art of lead-decorating, Kev. Respect, man!
Thank's chaps, :-\ mexicans, well, because i rarely keep anything that i paint i have decided to utilize a pack of 60x60 bases and paint a few different units from across the pendraken ranges to keep for myself, having not seen many of the ranges in the flesh i'm open to suggestions .

Did you paint the flags yourself?
Just read all 11 pages of this thread and the painting work is just awesome, really inspiring stuff.
These are really nice - I really like the style of your painting, yet have no idea how to replicate it myself.
Having looked at the high res photos, one small suggestion if I may, run a wash along the white edges of the flags - it doesn't have to match the colour exactly to blend them in well
Just lovely
Take care

As small as 5" ?

As the title says AWESOME :)
Lovely looking units, yet again!! :-bd
To misquote Marvin (The Paranoid Android)....
I've seen them....They're rubbish !
(Don't you just hate some people. ;))
Absolutely terrific, Kev.....You swine !! ;D ;D ;D

Cheers - Phil.
Welcome back Kev, superb work! 8)
Beautiful work! :-bd
Outstanding , I really like your style of painting. And the faces are wonderful.
Cheers Al.

It may have been ages but you don't seem to have lost the knack ;) ;D
Lovely, lovely work as always 8).
Top class painting - inspirational stuff. The best 10mm figures
I have seen. And...good timing...I'm just about to start an
LOA project (Dutch).
Just amazing.
Phil
Some marvellous stuff going on there.
Well, I can't paint then! :'(
Fantastic work Kev. =D>
Well there just fantastic
Take care
Andy
Outstanding work, those look great!

Thank's for all the comments chaps, i'm addicted to these ;D, you just have to love this range of figs. Hopefully not as long before i get working on another unit , should be Dutch next.
kev
That is so beautiful.
Ah, back to era when officers wore different uniforms - until they realised they were effectively saying to the enemy "shoot me!"
Great stuff, Kev.
Awesome work Kev!
Where did you get the Danish flags from?
Superb work as always. Inspirational. I just love the vivid colours
and precise brushwork.
>>should be Dutch next.
Yippee ! I'm just about to start on some of these so am really looking forward to seeing
what you do with them.
Phil
The painting is absolutely out of this world, but..........can't you fit more figures on a base? Think what these would look like with 8 or preferably 10, figures on a base! :o :o :o. In particular, I thinks pikes have to be close packed, or their weapons are useless. And they then provide that wonderful, woodcut, engraving sort of period look. My big complaint about most 28mm ECW pike "blocks" is they look like a few fey gardeners waving bamboo stalks about. Now 16pikes plus officers/flags on a one and a half inch square base, now that's a "block"! No prizes for guessing how mine are based? I know all of this is very subjective, but does anyone out there have views? None of this is a criticism of Kev, whose work is simply stunning. :D
Mollinary
Thank's chaps,
I have to agree with you Mollinary, they would look better with more figs per base, as most of you know i have never gamed before so i went with this amount as it was a rule system one of my customers used,( Maurice i believe), it seemed to be a popular rule set, in hindsight i should of opted for fuller bases as i'll probably only ever look at them ;D.
I just squeezed in a couple of arty bases in today Phil, one being Dutch, so should get the base finished tomorrow and put pics up, might be a while before the Dutch infantry get done as i'm very busy now.
kev

Definitely looking forward to seeing these. I think the Dutch army of this period is
fascinating - as well as the National Regiments you have the massive subsidy
contingent from so many nations that give it such colour and variety. Worthy of an
Osprey at least but it doesn't seem to be a period they cover with any enthusiasm.
Ho hum. Can I just ask where you get the wonderful flags ? They look very similar
to those on the Warfare Miniatures site and I wonder if reduced versions are available ?
Cheers,
Phil

I go for less figures on a base becuase:
- The abstract look appeals to me.
- I base my figures and then paint them, so this is easier generally with less figures on a base.
- It costs less, pure and simple.

Agree with all of that. My EE Warmaster minis are all one strip to a base rather than two.
Pikes do look great en masse though. :)

My 6mm Sumerian formed units are 48 figures to a base, I don't think you could get many more into the space. I think that says where I stand on figures to a base! :)
My Italian Wars pike started at 16 figures to the 40mm square base, as I'm now "upgrading" to Impetus they'll end up as 48 to an 80mm by 60mm, or 64 to a "full size" 80mm by 80mm with all the trimmings base...
It was supposed to be small and cheap, *sigh. Gone from two units to a pack, to two and a bit packs per unit :D

Kerching thinks Leon. ;)
A few allied artillery . I have a few pikemen spare so will see how many i can get on a base in a day or so.

Simply superb. I've painted 28mm cannons with a similar red colour scheme
(Frenchies) and am in awe of the finish you achieve.
Phil
Awesome
Those cannons are lovely
Cheers
Ian
They are really rather nice.
They both make me want to get some of these figures, I particularly like the officer with the telescope, and at the same time not want to paint them as I know mine want looks half as good.
Guess what I assembled and is awaiting undercoating! :'(

Here are some dutch cav , Garde te paard, gardes du corps, tengnagel and ginkel, also done three Dutch foot along with a few German cav, hope to get complete army pics on later.

Bravo Kev, you really are an artist. These sculpts are beautiful and you take them to another level.
Cheers Al.

Wow Kev, just superb. If you ever want to swap some painting for sculpting drop me a line!
Brilliant, Kev. Right down to the trumpet banners. :-bd
Stunning and inspirational!
Cheers chaps, they have been a joy to paint. I might take you up on that one day Clib ;D.
Here's the whole army, 400ish foot, 120 cav and 6 guns. Im coming back to the UK at the end of the month for a couple of weeks so i'm having a clear out of stuff that's looking for good homes ;D, painted and unpainted all at very reasonable prices, thought i'd offer you chaps them first before using ebay. possibly all of these guys as well as i carn't really see me ever gaming and it would be a shame not to get them on a gaming table.
I'm going to put a list of stuff on here over the next day or so and if anyone wants any of them i'll email pics etc.
