As the title says really, any plans to expand the ancient ranges to include some phalagnite armies to oppose the romans in the not too distant future?......especially a Seleucid force please... :D
I am desperate to do this period in 10mm but am not convinced by the Magister Militum figures. The Pendraken pikemen look really good, as do the Thessalian cavalry, but this is a period crying out for expansion. Very tempted to take the plastic 28mm route, but am hanging on for the 10mm version. Might be elephants and shielded cavalry in the Carthaginian range that could be used. Would like to see half-barded companions etc.
You'll have to ask that nice Mr Leon exactly when..... ;)
But as far as I'm aware, these will be on 'my' list of 'things to do' regarding the ancients' ranges in the not too distant future.
The Gauls need finishing off....(Cavalry - for certain......a chariot ?)....A handful of the infills for the Falkland's range....Just a few Argentinians to do now.
Then it'll be on to the Imperial Romans.
One the Romans are done.....I'm guessing that I'll be getting on with the above mentioned.
Schedule wise....That's up to 'the man'. ;) :)
Cheers - Phil.
Yep, as Techno says, once the Gallic/Imp Romans are both done, we'll head back and get started on the Greeks and Persians. So it'll probably be the start of 2014 I'd think roughly?

That suits my time frame nicely. For those who can't wait I have found a number of useful figures in the Greek, New Carthage, Early Roman Imperial and Persian ranges which would provide Successors with pikemen, unshielded cavalry, archers, slingers, imitation legionaries (Carthaginian veterans), elephants, and scythe chariots. It would be easiest to put together an early Successor army pre-280BC.
I have, literally, hundreds of Magister Militum Macedonian Phalangites. They look great, but it takes ages per figure to straighten & clean up the pikeshaft! I have only broken a single one - the metal is very forgiving - but constantly bend them (flaking paint off), meaning that the Macedonians, despite being the fist army I bought with intent to base up for Impetus, still haven't got anywhere, while many other armies bought later have...
I no longer as convinced as I was that the greater detail of moulded pikes outweighs the rigidity of steel pins... :-X
Steel pins every ti..ouch,ouch,arghh!
I think we'll be going empty handed on the Greeks, as casting the pikes can be a pain.
Since there are already Romans available, might i ask why the priority is for 'more Romans' as opposed to 'someone for the Romans to fight'?
:)
Also i have a 15mm Diadochi army that uses Essex pikes. Its seen a a lot of action and frankly the pikes are now like some sort of comedy rubber weapons. While i normally loathe assembling figures, i would definitely suggest going with seperate steel pikes.
Despite my comment on pins I would go with them every time. The production of steel pikes for 28mm figures has been one of the best moves ever in figure production, after the development of 10mm.
I have found the Pendraken Romans shields do look a bit... narrow. The curve is a bit tight looking.
Pikes... I do still like the extra detail on the MM pikes. And I have invested heavily in them... But I could be swayed...

We're revamping all of the Ancients ranges, generally in pairs, so Carthage/Rome, Gaul/Rome and then Greeks/Persians. We'll then be able to start filling in the gaps between these, like we've done with the Spanish.
Hi
Don`t normally do ancients or 15mm,
but
had a 15mm succsessor army and loved it.
The pikemen all had seperate wire pikes which is the way to go.
I would love to get into the period again so hope this is going to be a comprehensive range.

It definitely will be, we'll be making all of the new Ancients ranges as comprehensive as possible.

I'd vote for successors too
This is sounding very promising so I'm going to hang fire until they come out. Then I can flog off all my old 15mm Ancients.
Yeah Successors are great..My first DBA army was a Ptolemaic 15mm .Great fun to use
Votes added!
