The thread about a computer game version of Memoir '44 reminded me of youplay.it (http://youplay.it/), which has online (play in a browser) versions of Blue Max and Wooden Ships & Iron Men, as well as some other games.
It's completely free, though they do take donations.
I've got the board version WSIM (well, it's tucked away in a cupboard at my parents place). Good game, but needed a lot of patience.
Will have a look at this :)
Hi
Wooden ships and iron men brings back memories.
Used to play it 20 years ago.
There was nothing more gratifying than unleashing a stern rake on the French.

so did I. It was a very good game, but I won't consider playing it again now, too complex for my poor old brain. ;)

I haven't played the board game, but one advantage of playing online is that the computer does all the rules stuff and book-keeping. Leaves you free to concentrate on out-manoeuvring and out-shooting the Brits :-)

[...]Wooden Ships & Iron Men[...]
Brilliant game, that. It got me started in wargaming and it still fascinates me. We used to play it with Langton 1:1200 miniatures. However the pc version was seriously flawed, if I remember correctly. I believe I played it a few times and turned away in disgust, adopting the Total War series instead.
But the WS&IM boxed set is still in my closet somewhere. And I hear Tumbling Dice have very nice 1:4800 models that fit precisely onto the WS&IM counters... hmmm... :-\
Cheers,
Aart
