Title: Ancients Biblical period.
Post by: Jc on 05 May 2013, 10:56:30 AM
It seems at the moment this period is having a lot of coverage in the wargames press, and somewhat a resurgence on the club scene.
I have four armies in 6mm, two in 25mm ,and one 15mm  in this era but none in 10mm, the only other 10mm manufacturer seems to be Magister militum but they seem a little overscale and a bit pricey. So can i have some please ,come i know you want to make some shiny new sporty chariots.

It'll be one we get to as we continue with the Ancients revamps, but it's quite far down the queue unfortunately.

Hello Leon

When you do get round to the revamps, how about a Hittitte or two? ;)

Well you do need someone to beat up the New kingdom and Hyksos, but i must say i am partial to the Sumerians, fair infantry, and chariots like asthmatic invalid cars with 4 ass power.

Any chance of going right back to the beginning of organised warfare and doing Sumerians?

Spearman with and without shield/ pavise in copper helmet and studded leather cape
Guardsman with axe
Bowman in copper helmet
Command in copper helmet - officer(s) with sickle sword, standard bearer, musician
"Flies" skirmishers with javelin, sling, bow - unarmoured
4-onager "battle car" chariot
Messenger/ commander on "straddle car" chariot
King/ General in "battle car" chariot
Maru/ Guti / Lulubi mercenary warriors

Yes please, The Sumerians are a fav of mine,i have a 6mm ,25mm, and a 15mm army which i made from scratch, masters to casting.
But i can see how a 10mm one would fit in.
Plus the 15mm army was lots of hard work and took 18mths to complete.

Other companies have done Sumerians - how about someone to fight against the Sumerians?

However, I'm not sure who that would be...  :-[

Yes i go with Wulf - there are other Summeriam ranges out there.  And to be fair they do not have that many opponents apart from Akkadians who are almost identical.

Suggest

Philistines
Hebrews
Hittites
Assyrians
Babalonians
Egyptians

Many ofthese will have generic troop types that can be used in more than one army.

Minoan Greek
Trojan
Mycenaean (effectively the same I know)

Or as they get called in Barkerese, Sea People.

Nubians are cool too.
Please...

I'll narrow my choice down to Assyrians & Babylonians. With a side order of Philistines...

Just to show my ignorance who does Sumerians in 10mm?

I know of a partial range in 6mm by Rapier and a similarly limited range of 20mm plastics by Hat (iirc).

As to people to fight Sumerians it would be other Sumerians or mountain/ desert tribesmen I guess. I'd love to run a WMA campaign using Sumerian armies representing the various city states. In 6mm you could almost do 1:1 :)

I'd buy Egyptians and Assyrians. And stop being nasty to MM. They're a useful supplement to our lot, and I know I buy more Pendrakens because I can mix 'em up with others.

I have a 15mm DBM Hebrew Army.  You essentially mix and match from Hittite, Assyrian, Babylonian etc. as they borrowed kit from anywhere.

Whilst people are talking about distasteful jokes, I'd keep quiet about being French. In Britain, Jewish jokes seem to have died out with Bernard Manning, but the French crotch is still fair game for a hearty kick.

I would like to see chariot armies My only problem with others that I have bought is that the chariot occupants never fit in the chariot!  >:(. Pegs on the feet to fit into holes of the base of the chariot would be good  like some of the plastic 1/72  companies ones do

with 10mm it might be better to cast the figures onto the base then assemble the front and wheels possibly???

Is Phil doing a chariot for the Gauls?

There was a rumour that he was pimping somebody's ride, but I think he got scared after it was pointed out that he would be flooded with requests for Centurions (not the Roman type) if he ever did vehicles!

I'm holding out for Mycenean chariots in Dendra army.
