Title: Who do you know?
Post by: Leon on 05 May 2013, 03:14:34 AM
After we saw so many Forum members at Salute, I was wondering how many of us know each other outside of this electronic realm?  I know a few of our members are part of the same clubs, or game together regularly, but thought it would be interesting to see just how many there are?  Also, has anyone started gaming with someone else as a result of this or another Forum?

:-\

I've got to know Nik, SteveJ, TinyTerrain and Dave Fielder via the BKC and now this forum.

None of the them are my regular gaming partners as they all live at least an hour's drive away from me (or vice versa!).

Have met other BKC forum members whilst doing demo games at Colours and Legionary.

I am pretty sure one of our club members is on the forum but only an infrequent visitor. One or two members have approached me through this forum about games and locality but not gone much further than that.

I feel like I know quite a few of the members here and to be honest thats why I stick around ;)

"I've got to know Nik, SteveJ, TinyTerrain and Dave Fielder via the BKC and now this forum."

I also know Serotonin and Gwydion via this and the BKC forum. Regular gaming is very irregular at present so we don't get to meet up as much as we'd like :(.

I think my regular opponent has dipped a toe in this forum, but I think he's a regular on TMP, which I don't touch.

Met Dave, Leon, Andymac a few times, all good blokes, plus Martin, Tinyterrain, Sunjester, Justafeworcs and sixsided who I met briefly at shows.
Techno, I spare with, Nik I bounce ideas at, but have never met.
Mollinary, Cameronian, Le Manchu and Hertsblue LURK like me in the nineteenth century threads.
Goingaviking and Gernorm are regular opponents at MKWS.

I know - in real life (I've touched them, they're real):

Steve J, Kiwidave, Dave Fielder, Serotonin, Tiny Terrain, Paul Davies, Pruneau, angel barracks...maybe more?

Exchange emails / PMs / abuse with many, many more...so that I feel like I know them  :)

Bizarrely (?), I've never spoken to Dave / Leon, let alone met them  :o

From Forums / interwebs I know Nik and Nosher. Have met Leon at Claymore last year and seen Dave there. At Falkirk next week I will not let Dave have a beauty nap but insist on having my picture taken in the helmet!!!

An interesting thread Leon! @ All how about we arrange meetings at the show. Say x time at the Pendraken booth and coffee later on. Would be interesting to meet people.

At least we know summer is on a wednesday :P Last time England had a summer was 1966 and THAT was only due to the ref :P (Germans HAVE to I guess...)

As far as midgets are concerned I hear you and if I had a say we would not let them across the Tay but alas if Independence goes through I volunteer to rebuild Hadrians wall, preferably around Westminster for the greater good of the people in this country...

:D :D :D :D

" if Independence goes through "

surely as a Scot you have mistyped here, it should read

" WHEN Independence goes through "

the only down side being we'll be paying customs tax on our Pendraken orders.

FFFFFFFRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDDDDUUUUUUUUUMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

;D Well I am German, not Scottish but still eligible to vote  :-\

No such thing as import tax in EU  ;) . Cannot see how Scotland is refused when other valuable countries are in.
Another way -should taxation come- is to either pick it up or order smaller volumes for which no tax will be charged.... :d

Post by: GordonY on 06 May 2013, 06:15:51 PM
Oh there will be a tax, its gonna cost a sodding fortune to rebuild Hadrians wall, to keep out all those English as climate change totally floods all that low lying land.  :P :P

As far as I know I don't know anyone on this forum other than Leon and Dave, although I do have an affinity to Mad Lemmy as, like him, I am a mid-C19th fan and have been since I was 17 (now 60). In fact at one time I had a pretty big Franco-Prussian collection of Peter Laing figures (all sold now).

"Build your own wall, Gordon - I always thought Hadrian's wall was in England! Or are you planning a little expedition?"

It is NOW, but remember that Scotland was once a much bigger place, a point that the big fish cunningly so far hasn't raised, once we have the current Scotland freed from the invaders yoke, we will begin our campaign to free our lesser brethren and reclaim our lost provinces.

England will soon be reduced to the home counties, anyone ever watched "Passport to Pimlico" ? Hilarious old B&W movie.

Don't want to sound too negative, but IMHO it's best to forget memories like that. If everybody did just that, the world would be a much better place to live in. On the other hand, we would have far fewer options for our games. Anyway, what's the Scottish phrase for 'Heim ins Reich', if I may ask?

Forgot: Might as well answer the original question. I've met Leon and Dave, and I've said hello to Pruneau, but I think that's about it. Maybe next Crisis us Continentals can arrange something?

In terms of actually "hands on" type stuff it is limited to Kiwidave and actually talking to Leon in person.

I have just discovered the joys of airsoft so that counts as well for a couple on here ;)

You realise of course that 'Scotland' doesn't actually exist in any meaningful legal sense?

Nor does England, Wales or Northern Ireland.

These are 'constituent countries' within the national state of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

'If' or 'when' the Scots 'gain independence' (from what??  What are they currently 'dependent' on that they want out of??) what that actually means is seccession from, and the break up of, a Nation (the UK) they have been a vital and constituent part of for 300 years (after their leaders bankrupted the clans during the Darien Scheme) on the say so of at most 1/13th of the nation's population.  Personally i'd really rather like a say on matter if my nation is going to be broken up.

Mel Gibson has a lot to answer for...

I made a 20mm figure of William Wallace for a company that dealt with the Scottish tourist industry quite a few years ago.
It was based on a famous statue of him.

It got back to me that the only complaints about it were......It doesn't look like Mel Gibson in the film does it ?
I liked that ! :P ;D ;D ;D

Nothing to laugh about that.  :o

I managed to drive down to Beltring (I think) for a browse on the WG thingy there, the summer of 10 when doing  summerhols in a cottage in Kent. Going on the inboard GPS I managed to get 10 hours of driving and 3 hours of browsing done.  :D
