Title: Reconstruction
Post by: Luddite on 29 April 2013, 09:54:36 PM
For no particular reason i thought this was a great video showing the reason why skilled horse archers were so dominant on the battlefield.  Exceptional skill shown by the archer too.

Yeah, but did he actually hit anything? At no point did they ever show you the target.  :-\

Yeah but think along the lines of say a mob of 500 of them all getting those 12 arrows in the general area of the target in the 18 seconds. Now unless your Romans in a Tortoise formation that would be pretty scary.

Coo....
Well, I'm impressed !
I find it hard to even stay on a horse, let alone do anything else.

Or there are 500 longbowmen shooting back. Know which one I'd back - especially at range.

Not sure the Romans had access to the longbow? :-\
Or anyone else who faced mass horse archers did for that matter.
As the main advantage of the horse archer is speed and mobility, (and they aren't French), they probably would not be so sporting as to charge massed archers front on. They'd go around the flanks and pick the longbowmen off.

I know we all like to believe in the unbeatable quality of the English longbow, (I know I do, you should see my 15th century armies) but if it was really that good how come we lost the 100 Years War?  :'(
