Title: Neil Thomas Crimean Army Lists
Post by: sdennan on 24 April 2013, 10:07:51 AM
I am thinking of putting together a British army but the army list calls for a maximum of 3 cavalry units. Im not sure how to work this. Weather its 3 regts or 2 Brigades. If Brigades I get Light and Heavy then what?

I do not have the detail immediately to hand, but as far as I remember there were 2 brigades, the Light and Heavy and each had at least 3 regiments if not more.

I have had difficulty relating his approach to OOB's and scenarios to the actual detail and eventually gave up. His rules clearly suit some people but not my cup of tea at all.

Simon - this is from a 1994 publication - by J. W Brown

1855 -Cavalry Division - 1st Brigade (Heavy) 1, 4, 5th Dragoon Guards, 1st, 2nd, 6th Dragoons.
                                   2nd Lt Brigade - 4th 13th Lt Dragoons, 12th Lancers, 6th Dragon Guards
                                   3rd Lt Brigade 8th, 10th, 11th and 17th Hussars.

1854 Alama - Lt cavalry Brigade - 4th & 12th Lt Dragoons, 8th 11th Hussars, 17th Lancers

1854 Balaclava Heavy Brigade - 1st Dragoons, 2 Sqdn each of 2nd and 6th Dragoons, 4th and 6th Dragoon Guards
                      Lt Brigade - 8th & 11th Hussars, 13th and 4th Lt Dragoons, 17th Lancers.

1854 Inkerman  5th Dragoon Guards, 6th Dragoons

Given the book strength I suspect many units were amalgamations.
