Title: Decals
Post by: fsn on 23 April 2013, 05:20:24 PM
On a whim, I bought a pack of Inkjet decal water-slide paper.

I'm used to decals from kits, but has anyone got any advice about using it? For example it's A4 and I reckon I could get several hundred allied tank stars on one page - which is probably going to be far more than I need.

Anyone used this stuff? Any hints, tips or dire warnings?

Scarp that - I've just found the old thread.

White stars will be a problem as your printer doesn't print white!!

I haven't tried printing the green surround of a star on white decal paper, then using this - but I think matching the green will be quite hard.

I have made my own Arm of Service badges (coloured squares with a number) and divisional badges - which work quite well.

As Fred says, printing white is a bit difficult!  You can get hold of some old printers which can do it, but it's not an ideal solution.  Other things like German crosses, generic numbers/letters, are easily doable though.

There's some nice US stars here as well: http://www.minibits.net/I-94-DecalsTransfers-c23/ (http://www.minibits.net/I-94-DecalsTransfers-c23/)

As I say it was an impulse buy.

I think it'll end up being used for posters, signs etc on buildings.

Also, as you say, it's possible to print vast quantities of insignia on an A4 sheet so unless you want to put up with enormous wastage of paper you would need to find a lot of different things to print.
