Title: Re painting diecast 1/144 aircraft
Post by: Dannyboy on 13 April 2013, 02:48:50 PM
Hi I'm slowly building up a collection of diecast 1/144 aircraft for gaming, just wondered if there was anybody out there with more experience than me on repainting these.

General consensus on the model car restoration forums is disasemble the models as much as possible, carefully removing plastic components; then either sand down painywork and varnish or else leave overnight in paintstripper. Then apply new primer coat.

Is it possible to achieve a reasonable finish, simply by spraying straight over existing paintwork with new primer coat and work from there?

Cheers for any hints or advice

You can achieve a good finish by spraying over the existing paint work. However the decals normally show up under the new primer coat, which is often an issue.
