Just (almost) finished my first regiment and realised at the last minute that I'd painted a Brit standard bearer in Brunswick colours so the 2nd standard is missing.

I'll keep this thread going with my progress as I get the armies painted, criticism is more than welcome as I want to improve with each regiment.
Cheers
Ry
That's nice tidy work, thanks for posting the pics!
As a bit of feedback (although this depends on your own tastes and the look you're going for), maybe lighten up the bare patches on the bases, just to make them 'pop' a bit more? Like Dazza's here:

Other than that, awesome work.
:-bd
Yep, agreed the light basing stands out and brings the figures 'off the base'.
I used the fine sand you sent me and to the naked eye it's brilliant with a mud brown but will definitely need to lighten it as Dazza has done and throw on a few grass tufts.
Cheers for the kind words.
Ry
Very very nice Ry, the crossbelts are looking crisp, like Leon says, perhaps a few tufts to make them stand out more apart from that, spot on.
Just had my americans arrive yesterday ( cheers Leon /Dave , great castings) so looking forward to starting them soon, looking forward to seeing your progress with more of these,

Very decent figures.
1. Try to do "black lining" thinner, actualy a very thin line paralel to the detail of figure.
2. Try to paint all lines (belts etc.) of constant width.
Very nice Ry, I think they measure up very well. On the basing, I find the Baccus Basing kit is a good and simple way of lifting the bases (I think mine are much improved) and it works as well for 10mm as 6mm. You might want to use slightly coarser grain sand, and it is not necessary to use all the coats, but the idea is simple, and well explained, and I think you can get the paints separately from the set if you wish. Have a look at their website.

Those look terrific Ry !! :-bd
Cheers - Phil.
excellent!!! very neat and effective
Great work
Very nice. I look forward to the next work....!
Thanks for the tips and compliments all :)
Mollinary, I'll check that out, it sounds promising.
cheers
Those are absolutely stunning good sir, but in my head I hear a small voice screaming "how long will it take to get both sides ready for the table?"
But then again, I'm one of those chaps who would (almost) be satisfied by spraying one side red and the other blue.

Reminds me of my first foray into wargaming with lead soldiers - 2mm Napoleonics from Irregular. They were sprayed red and blue and are still in their tobacco tins in the attic!
Looking great! 8)
Looking good, Ry 8)

Dig 'em out Nosher - you know you want to ;) Or send 'em to me & I'll add some detail for you (just finished my 2mm SYW Austrians & Prussians for Maurice :))

I've gone to work on the bases (ain't got large grit or tufts yet) and have highlighted it with lighter colours, also tried to line black a little better since the last Regt.
Many thanks to all who have given advice (I've tried to utilise it all), I really feel like I'm learning here so hats off to you all.
I feel my second regt is better than my first due to your input.
Cheers

PS.. Critiscism is still welcome and is probably the best remedy for a painter looking to improve so feel free to throw it on. :)
Looking good, Ry - some (small) critique:
- the backpack straps: these look a touch inconsistent (some thicker than others) - have you thought of edging the basecoat on these (using the edge of the brush at 90 degrees to the strap) and then either doing the same with the highlight, or 'touch' painting the higlight - as a series of 'spots'?
- tidy up the rear basing edges on your stands - you've got scuffs from highlighting
- a featherlight touch of off-white onto your grass can 'lift' just a touch by giving an extra highlight (and therefore depth)
- your black soldiers would benefit from a highlight on their faces - I'd go with Chestnut Brown - again, just to lift a touch
These are beautifully done though 8)
They look good to me. Excellent work again.
Nik, you're spot on.
I think I should try photograghing them as they are in daylight first though. (mixing a bad photographer with 8pm light ain't good)
I based the black soldiers faces in scorched brown, highlighted bestial brown then touched with leather to 'identify' them, really need to use light more effectively as I could make out lips/eyes/cheeks when I painted them but looking at the pics as they are her I'm really dissapointed (in the flesh I was happy)
I'll scratch the bases clean and photo them in daylight tomorrow, hopefully they'll be better but if not then............that's why I'm here...to learn from the best.
Cheers
Ry
Really nice work! :D
Those are really stunning Ry, really nice work. Nik is spot on about the straps on the packs, i split them in half when painting, bottom half white and top gold for a buckle, i dont know if it,s technically correct but it looks good to me and at a distance looks nice and clean/crisp. Well done on the colored guys, i painted some zulus a couple of years ago and thought they would be easy and quick but they were actually the hardest figures iv,e ever painted, getting the colors right and a good highlight i found very difficult and that was on 6mm so 10s is even harder. A good idea on the grass also, something i dont do or have never thought about so will give that a try, thanks Nik.
I hope you dont mind me putting this pic on as i find it easier to show what i mean than explain, looking forward to seeing more,

Nah. 25mm figures aren't good enough to be passed off as a Clib sculpt
Thanks for the kind remarks :)
I'm planning on a paint conversion of some AWI french into a spanish colonial militia next, some lively colours.
Cheers
