I'm on the fence politically speaking as my family have always been split down the middle, but whichever way you lean - if it wasn't for Maggie.......we wouldn't have a falklands range.

Well....

I'm sorry she's died.
If she was still alive the BBC wouldn't be going ON & ON & ON & ON & ON & ON & ON & ON & ON & ON & ON & ******* ON about it.
Would someone drop me a PM when the media have decided to stop flogging a dead horse and report on something else.....Sheesh !!!

Just rejoice at that news.

The Lady's not returning.

A read somewhere that she's being buried in a mine shaft.

One thing i want to know though is why the funeral isn't being privatised?
Why is £8 million of public money being spent to drag her carcass a mile across London?

I'm looking forwards to the celebration though.

Just the Bullingdon Club and New Labour to go...

Just read this :
http://www.lepoint.fr/editos-du-point/michel-colomes/il-faudrait-une-thatcher-a-hollande-09-04-2013-1652525_55.php

" Il faudrait une Thatcher à Hollande

Seules des mesures drastiques prises par une personnalité sans concessions, comme le fut l'ancienne Premier ministre britannique, pourrait sortir la France de son état dépressif aggravé.
"

" Hollande would need one Tatcher.

Only drastic measures committed by a personality without concessions, as was the former British Prime minister, could save France from her deep depressive state."

I want to cry.

On a nasty sidenote I am glad to see (even I am German) that even you Brits realise she sold this countries assets.

I believe certain services are esesential and cannot be provided by the cheapest bidder but it is the duty of the state to provide it. As much as Blair claims the citizens have duties, the state has them as well.

And it's stupid to sell tomorrow to pay for today (esp. a small collection of stakeholders today). As Churchill observed, the best investment for any country is putting milk into babies.

I am beginning to wonder whether we should (maybe)..Kick this one into touch before it ends up getting too nasty and personal....and some bad feelings ensue ?
We don't want to end up with some sort of 'slagging off' competition, do we ?
Personally... I don't want members of the Forum falling out with each other because of differences in political views.
Just a thought chaps.  ;)
Let's keep Politics and Religion kept as far away as we can ??

Hear, hear

indeed the views on certain issues often causes grievance and as much as I doubt real hard feelings can last very long on this particular forum I totally see your point and agree Phil.

As a sort of Neutral German (lol) I would not see the potential issues Thatcher discussions could consist of - much less is such communicated abroad in detail. As being interested in economy I can only say in my opinion it was not a smart move what she did, at least in the long run. Then my view is that certain services should be run by the government in order to ensure quality and availability (ok those 2 are debatable). I tend to think no one wants a privatized NHS, private (monopolised) energy and water sector. If I have hurt any Torrie voter I apologize and can assure them I also slug off Labour and Politicians in general if they forget what their job is. Politics is not about filling your pockets or those of a small portion of the population, in my eyes politicians should represent their people and make politics FOR people and not against them.

To grab the issue of closing mines and the demise of the steel industry in UK I think retrospectively it is clear that a basic manufacturing capacity must be retained by the state. For economic and strategic reasons (also military, I think thats quite understandable). As stated above I also criticize Labour, Blair for the balls up in Iraq and Afghanistan and in his later years abusing the "citizenship comes with duties" credo. Not that this is wrong but both the citizen and the state have duties and in a mutual agreement neither of them would have to insist on the other part doing their job properly.

Agreed it is hard to look beyond the political/religious boundaries of your own beliefs but in my experience it leads to really great results. A healthy and fair discussion is OK but I second Phil's vote to keep it sane.

Cheers

Roland

I could easily step up to Defend Thatcher, but then I remember the ten years before her, even though I was young. I won't purely because this isn't the place for it.

I will however say one thing, because there have been some very obnoxious comments elsewhere on the web that I wouldn't want to ee repeatd here. Regardless of you views, Mrs Thatcher was someones mother, someones grand mother. How do you think they feel at the moment? How would YOU feel if people were discussing you mother or grand mother that way?

I remember what it was like before Thatcher too - and I'd go back to that in a heartbeat. See the blog post I linked to earlier in this thread for why.

And we know she was someone's mother - the odious little turd Mark Thatcher, who if anything, managed to turn out even worse than his mother.
