Hey all,
So i was finaly looking for ordering a gw battlemat, and now i cannot find it anywhere in their webstore!
Is it being discontinued??
I think they withdrew it as it didn't have enough skulls on it
I found it on their webstore but listed as no longer available, so why list it then!?
It was the only thing left that was worthwhile :'(
Why would they sell you an excellent quality 6x4' battlemat for £20 when they can sell you 6x4' worth of sculpted plastic tiles for £175.
Think it through man...there's a cash cow of gullible toddlers out there to milk...
Well....
To put under the sculpted tiles and keep them from sliding arbout :D

No, no, ...don't tell me...It's on the tip of my tongue.....Begins with a P. ;)
Cheers - Mr Cynic.
If the Battlemat has gone, that will be very annoying as I was thinking of getting a second one >:(
Try Hobbycraft, they often have them.
Dont Railway Model shops have lots of this type of thing...not sure of the sizes but I bet it would be cheaper

The railway ones are often paper backed which don't sit very flat. The GW one has a fairly heavy cloth backing and sits Ono the table nicely or over hills under the mat.
I think I have seen on tmp that people are using this and say its good

or something like it
I am a big fan of the fern coloured faux fur throws made by gaveno cavailia
Nik put me on to these - they come in 3 sizes single, double & kingsize. The one side has a long pile and the other side is a short pile.
I use the short side with pieces of upholstery foam from Dunelms placed underneath for hills and stuff
I've used Bases as small as 15mm by 20mm without a problem
There are only 2 down sides - you can't really roll dice on the surface as it produces a lot of "cocked" dice and beware of family members nicking it because they are very soft, snugly and warm
Here are some photos showing the throw in action http://s1206.photobucket.com/user/alanmillicheap/library/French%20Indians%20Wars/Overlord%202013
When I bought one a few years back I heard at the time that they were a one-off bulk purchase by GW and that they would not be restocking. Consequently a number of club members bought them so we now have four or five down the club. However I do like the look of the faux fur throws, and a reasonable price as well.
Have a look at http://www.ainsty-castings.co.uk/
Ebay search on felt, 6x5, 20 available colours about a tenner.
Yes, but felt isn't nearly as realistic as the GW mats (we, too, have four at our club). And the railway stuff is paper-backed and flimsy. The jury's out on the fleece throws.
I went ahead and bought one of the larger throw fleeces and am very pleased especially with the way it can be laid over books, foam etc to form slopes. My C19th stuff on 60mm frontage bases has no problem standing on it and it also forms different shades owing to the nature of the material. It definitely looks a lot better than felt. Quite chuffed really for the price, which was lower than the GW mat and it's also a bit bigger, but there again, different strokes for different folks.

My local Hobbycraft had loads in stock last week so worth a look (would have posted sooner but forgot where I had seen this post) Listed on their website as a store only item.
Heard a rumour on Sunday that GW are going to put more battlemats on sale - but at twice the price. Blow that for a game of marbles! >:( >:( >:(
:o
To be honest it wouldn't be GW if they didn't find some way of raising the price.
Yes....But to be fair, they're probably going to be made out of synthetic cashmeremore......A highly prized and valuable material. ;)
Cheers - Phil
=)
And I'd feel cheeky buying in a load of those Asda cloths for £5 each and selling them at £8... :(
what about hotz mats
http://www.hotzmats.com/
I've looked into hotz mats before, but i was unsure :-\
I have looked around a bit and read about very varying shipping times, with some of them being exceptionally long :o
