Hi chaps,
Just managed to base up the 24 figs i painted over last weekend, well apx 10 hrs, getting quicker but i think it will be a while before the dice are rolling.
Bit of a one track pony at the mo, just waiting for the opposition to arrive. The plan is to paint 30 over a weekend but we will see, why does work always get in the way in the week.
Hope you like them , looking forward to starting the next batch tomorrow,
cheers,
kev

Kev,
Great work! Your style really suits this scale, the colours really jump out at you. I look forward to seeing the opposition in due course.
Mollinary
Hi Kev,
Great work, superb detailing!
Two things, are you undercoating the trousers grey and highlighting white? and also might I nudge you for info on your basing technique?, it actually looks like a common field with kicked up turf, I'd love to be able to replicate it.
Cheers
Ry
Cheers chaps,
Yes Ry, i use mostly velejo paints and the light grey is 345 splinter camo. The base tex is the white pummice then battle field grass, i usually ad a few tufts to finish, i did mix my own fine sand with pva but this pre mixed stuff is quicker and it stands up better. costs about £7 for 200 mils but you get a lot of bases out of it, i will put a pic of the full army tomorrow, well what iv,e done so far so you can see how far it goes and i still have half a pot left.
kev
Those are GORGEOUS Kev. :-bd =D> =D>
Cheers - Phil
Great work Kev 8). my AWI stuff for Maurice is way down the queue at present, along with many, many other projects :(.
Cheers Kev :-bd
Any chance of nicking your paint pallete inventory details for AWI?, I've only ever used vallejo paints for Jerries Afrika corps (I'm a GW harlot).
Everyone keeps telling me vallejo paints are a better job overall and as I'm about to overhaul my pallette, I want to know I'm investing in something I'll return to.
My experience with the new GW paint pots tells me they're engineered to dry out within 75-100 uses (so buy more and make GW richer), and I still use the vallejo I have (3 pots) after 4 years.
My paints are roughly 10/90 - gamecraft/GW with a few vallejo so any input is good.
cheers
Ry
Yes Ry , i,ll sort out my paint list for you tomorrow as i,m on the wine now ;D. i always used gw paints before and still have some but find it difficult to get them in hungary so get vellejo from Leon . Both good paints so dont give up on your gw yet as i will give you the eqivillant ones i use.
kev
Excellent work!
AMAZING , GREAT Job
Congratulations
Lovely work. Am I allowed to be jealous!? Have sent my AWI off to be painted for me as I have so many projects on the go I just haven't the time to do everything - I know just what you mean about work getting in the way of painting. If mine are half as good as yours I'll be happy.
Great work DaveL
Beautifully done Kev 8)
That's me out of a job :(
Those are really great Kev, well done :D
Andy Mac
Thanks chaps, i think your jobs safe Andy ;D. Well i,m halfway to my 30 figs target for this weekend but i,m going wine tasting at a mates tonight so it may be a late start tomorrow ;D
Here is my paint list Ry, Gory red, flat red,scarlet/ blood red GW, splinter cam light grey, scorched brown GW, vermin brown GW , off white, bleached bone GW, dark flesh, basic skin tone, polished gold, mithryl silver GW, gun matal, dark green, sick green, royal blue GW, prussian blue, and german highlight 337.
A lot of the GWs have changed their names since i last bought some so not sure of most of the equvilants but i,m sure there is a site somewhere that gives a list.
I also use these for naps so a handy lot to have in your paint stock. Hope this is of help,
kev
they look really good, coming along really nicely
Well i finally got my first army pack finished, very pleased with them and the amount of figs you get in the pack. Hope you like the pics, next job is to finish the indians and friendlies before the yanks arrive.

Nice
Very cool! :D
Lovely stuff Kev. I can never get enough of these sculpts in the hands of our best painters - I hope you'll be trying your skills out on the new LOA cavalry when they get released?
Mollinary
Great stuff!
Beautiful!!!
The more I see of these, the happier I am that I've got some to paint up with your work as inspiration.
Thanks for sharing
Ry
Outstanding brushwork !
And it's simply unbelivable how fast you paint them. =D>
Thanks for all your comments chaps, and yes i am going to try a few more different periods of figs mollinary ( the LoA cav look stunning) , i have a couple of nap samples coming in my next batch of goodies so looking forward to doing them ,
thanks,
kev
Those are disgustingly good Kev !
WONDERFUL !! :-bd =D>
Cheers - Phil.
Fantastic Kev. Brilliant painting. Can you let us know base sizes you use and how many figures per unit and which rules you're going to use.
Thanks. Best Wishes Jealous DaveL
Very nice !!! 8)
Hi Dave,
I am using 30x30s with 6 figs and 6 bases per regiment , cav and arty on 60x30s. This is only because it,s what i use for the 6mm i do regularly , as for rules i,m not sure yet and me being new to gaming ll only be doing small battles so it wont be anything complicated ;D. The table size should be about 5 foot by 4 when it,s finished ( this is the wife,s project as she is more artistic than me ;D ) so plenty big enough for a novice. I may even convince her to have a game as i dont know of any gamers or clubs in Hungary, then i may use kev,s own take on rules if i,m loosing ;D.
kev
Superb work Kev, you should be proud of yourself! I take my hat off to you. I'm amazed at how quickly you have painted these and to such a high standard. I thought the way you did the gun barrels was excellent.
Thanks for the info Kev. Wow!!!!! To have a wife that's interested!!!! - lucky guy ;D Good luck with the project and the table
Bet Wishes DaveL
This is a man who paints pockets on 10mm waistcoats! I can't even see the waistcoats. :'(

Sorry Kev I digressed from your thread - your figures look spiffing especially the Grenadiers. Great bronze effect on the cannon too
No probs, i see what you mean :o very nice work , i am looking forward to the new cav but dont think i,ll do eyelids ;D. The faces are my least favorite to do, i think i will try another method of painting them now i,ve seen those, i will get a mixed bag of LoA to have a go at when the new stuff,s ready,
kev

Fantastic work! 8)
Lovely! 8)
I think I'll just throw away the brushes now and stick to pushing putty about ! ;)
Superb !!
Cheers - Phil.
Leon, is there any way of banning Kev from posting pics of his figures as I'm finding it too depressing for words ;). But seriously Kev absolutely stunning work once again. You should be proud of your work.

Agreed!!, he should send them to me for vetting, I promise (with fingers crossed behind my back) to return them and not put them on my mantlepiece. :D
Seriously Kev, just had a longer look; have you considered doing this for a living?, if not, definitely something to fall back on.
Cheers chaps much appreciated, nice one steve ;D i only have the indians to finish tonight then i,ll be a bit quiet for a while, next lot up will be the continentals when i get them sprayed up but got rotovating and planting to do this week and i carn,t keep my hands steady after a days rotorvating ;D. Techno, at least you do good stuff with your putty, all i can do with it is stick my figs down to paint them ;D ;D.
thanks,
kev
Cheers Ry, i paint 6mm for a living, 10s are for me :D. only had one job with 10s and thats what got me into pendraken, i only paint as a job monday to friday then paint for myself at weekends.

Definitely another addition to my next order.

The indians (native americans, whatever) are brilliant, Kev, blue faces and all. :)
Thanks Herts,

Hi Kev,
The painting is, as always, sublime. I have a question to ask, however. I note that all your bases are very dark brown, and wonder if you have ever experimented with a signiifcantly lighter highlighting? I am no expert, but it seems to me that the dark bases don't show off the amazing quality of your painting, because they don't reflect light onto the figures. Is there anyone out there who knows what they are talking about (unlike me!), and can discuss the relative merits of dark and light basing for small figures?
Cheers,
Mollinary
Love the guy in the tartan bonnet - very eighteenth century. :)
Thank's chap's,
I have done lighter bases for Persian armies Andrew and to be honest i did think about it for the LoA fig's , i am stuck with the darker brown now for the AWI but i think i will try lighter on the next batch of LoA, i think you may be right about the light, what colors do you chap,s use if doing lighter bases ?. I like to experiment so any ideas let me know and i'll give them a go.
kev
Very nice!!!
Once again very nice Kev 8).
Brilliant as ever Kev.
Re bases - I put on the sand, then do a brown wash with what used to be called Devlan Mud - but of course all the names of GW paints have changed now - it's something like Agrath ....?
When that's dry, I dry brush with Vallejo paints in the following order: German orange camo brown, then desert sand then finally Iraqui sand. It works for me - but each to there own
Happy basing!!! ;D
Best Wishes DaveL
Excellent stuff again!
8)
LOVELY !! :-bd =D>
Cheers - Phil
Cheer's chap's, and thank's for the info Dave, will give that a go on my next LoAs,
kev
Lovely, Kev - a featherlight drybrush of Bleached Bone / Iraqi Sand would just 'lift' the bases without much effort :)
Superb Kev,
what is the size of your bases (Inf, Cav and Art). For what rule ?
Cheers
Thank's Nik, will do, i think i put the 2nd and 3rd coats on to quick , i normally leave the 1st coat over night to dry but wanted to see these to soon ;D
Cheers BH, i only based these as samples for one of my customers so not done for any particular rules, the cav are on 30x30s in two's and 15x30s for single.
kev
Been away from forums for a while, but so nice to come back and see some really cracking eye candy. Keep up the good :)

Gorgeous work, really great.
Looking back at these figures I wish I'd made some different choices; smaller tricorns and mitres for a start.
Do I see three layers of colour on certain bits?!
Awesome work as always Kev 8).
For goodness sake Kev !!
I used to threaten the figure painters at the EE by saying I'd take a hammer to their fingers when they painted something awesome.....to slow them down.
You....Can have a couple of breeze blocks dropped on your hands. ;) ;) ;D ;D
They are GORGEOUS.....Take a bow Matey !!...You deserve it !! :-bd :-bd =D> =D>
Cheers - Phil
Outstanding brilliance sir! 8)
You see if this was TMP I could stifle Kev and never again be depressed by the outstanding painting that can be achieved by the truly talented and thus remain happy with my own levels of proficiency :-\
I'm gobsmacked, Kev. The mitre-plates on the grenadiers are something else! =D> =D> =D>
Thanks for all the comments chaps, much appreciated.
Clib, yes there is a bit of 3 colour going on, the good thing about Leon and Dave's figs is you can paint them up quick to get them on the table and they look great or you can go a bit further and get them as good as a 28mm, i think that may get me a few stifles on TMP for saying that ;D ;D.
Cheers for that Techno ;D ;D, i can paint the detail on them but i could'nt make them ;). i'm tempted to get a few Mongols to have a go at and would like to try a few Falkland brit's now i have seen them, that would be something new as i dont think i've painted anything past the late 1800s.
cheers,
kev
You do anything any better Kev....
And it won't be just breeze blocks I'll want to 'caress' your fingers with. ;) ;) ;)
Love to see what you can do with other stuff !
Just keep up the stunning work ! :-bd :-bd :-bd....So enjoyable to see.
Cheers - Phil.
Nice work!
Stunning work :-bd
I've made no secret of the fact that Kev and Dazza's galleries got me into Pendraken 10mm via a cople of posts on TMP.
I'll make no secret of saying that they've glued me to it.
But when you come out with work like this Kev.........WOW, so good it makes me ask if my efforts are futile, then I remember that emulating your work would be a real achievement so I'll plod on.
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers

Ahhh the 53, the old Brick Dusts, later 1st KSLI. Can't beat em! Floret Salopia! :D

Wouldn't have thought it possible on 10mm figures. =D> =D> =D>
fast running out of superlatives

fantastic work again
I don't think its possible to paint this well, if the sculpts themselves aren't up to the same excellent standard
