Title: ACW Union Blue Coats
Post by: Bunny on 15 March 2013, 10:19:30 AM
Hi Guys,

I would thought I would ask the group what would be the best 'blue' spray colour to use to do Union jackets.

Thanks

Army Painter do an Ultramarine blue which I use. So long as you follow the instructions on the can youll be fine.

If you're going to highlight after spraying I'd recommend a darker blue, like navy. Highlighting always makes the colours look lighter.

My method is spray with mid blue, wash with dark brown or black, then highlight back up.

I use a mixture of blues for Union jackets to represent the rigours of campaign. Just ensure that the blue is not too light

I find Vallejo Oxford Blue is a good darkish blue. For campaign-worn jackets I have stumbled across Daler Rowney acrylic Prussian blue in a tube. You only need a little as it is quite thick. Thinned with water and painted over a white undercoat it gives a good faded veterans coat.
