Title: Modern Period Range
Post by: Rob on 28 February 2013, 01:20:12 AM
I'd like to request that Pendraken expand their modern period offerings to include Warsaw Pact and Nato forces please.  :)

I dont really mind what time period it is as long as the vehicles and weapons of both sides are within the same time period. Early eighties might be a good period as you already have usable Brit infantry, the CVRT and landies.

Cheers, Rob  :)

Yup, I second that. We'll need modern military for zombie wars otherwise why have modern zombies? Not fussed where they're from so long as they are from the west. 80's would be ok (it'd have a nice romero dead trilogy feel to games  8)) but any era after that would be good too.

With the Centurion and T55/54 and various bits from the Vietnam range, plus second world war, you have the nucleus of some of the earlier post WW2 conflicts. However, it would be nice to have dedicated late 20th century kit, Chieftains, M60s, T62s, 64s, 72s etc.

Oh, and the correct infantry to go with, of course. The second half of the 20th century is now a recognisable historical period. Let's embrace it.  :-B :-bd

Could do with some generic African Rebels, most of my wargaming is Post War African conflicts, so anything from the 1950's would do me. Plus modern forces and obscure forces such as the Australian Infatry with the Steyr AUG.

I'd second this: work from what you have already, and expand to include other options. Trying to do it all in one go would be an immense task, and would mean that you end up with various bits and pieces, and nothing nearing a complete range in sight. So I think it's better to see what is missing for a particular range/conflict, and do these. This in turn will mean that other ranges/periods/conflicts will become more viable.

For example, for the earlier Arab-Israeli conflicts (e.g. 6-day war), you can use various WW2 stuff, as well as several items (M48, M113, PT-76 and so on) from the Vietnam range. With the addition of the Centurion and T54/55 more gaps are filled. Add what is missing for this (e.g. infantry / BTR's / ZSU 23-4 and so on). These will be then be useful for other periods and conflicts.

On the other hand, if you started to work on (again only for example), a Bundeswehr circa 1984 range, you'd need to make a lot more stuff before the range becomes usable.

Very useful additions there, so sounds like a plan.  8)

Easy there Jethro!  We've got a lot of other vehicles higher up on the requests at the moment, so we'll have to sit down and see what we can get done over this year.

I'll pin Dave down and we'll work out what we need for 2013.  Probably some WW1 bits I'd think.

Had another thought. Arab/Israeli figures. Israelis could be armed with Uzi's, FN's, Galils, M16s and Tavor rifles and have helmets or berets. That would cover the Israelis from the 50's upto present day. The Arabs could be armed with AKs and have helmets or Keffiyeh head wear.

I might buy into, say, sovs in afganistan or similar asymmetrical skirmish-orieted.If I do the North-German parking lot again it will be in 6mm -- there are lots of that in town dating back to the 80s
