Talk about pointless? :o
They'll be looking to give medals to kids sat in front of screen at home fighting fictitous wars
I know what you mean Nosher
after having my boots on the ground in 9 Op Tours it makes my blood boil to see these guys get medals for sitting in rooms for a few hours with no danger or ahardship at all >:(
but the American Military do give out Medals for the most bizzare things. ;) :D
What are they going to call the thing - the Distinguished Steering Cross? the Conspicuous Concentrating Medal? =) :P (:|
Shakes head in disbelief ! :o
Maybe a Purple Thumb as well, if you get RSI? :o
I am reliably informed that it will be known colloquially as the NAM decoration. Yes, you guessed it "The Numb A..e Medal"!

Dohh, they actually run the risk of not getting lobster for lunch and the AC shutting down. To paraphrase Col Kurtz: The hardship, the hardship... ;D
Salutes for the 9 tours, I`ve been over a measly two rounds.
My friend worked on an American airbase during the first Gulf war as a typist/administrator. She was awarded a medal... ;D ;D ;D
Not really a great deal of difference if you get your medal for sitting outside pizza hut or the EFI drinking coffee in Bastion 1 for most of your tour like some I have seen. I am an Civvy IT geek putting kit in the Hospital and am eligible due to time spent for a medal and never set foot outside of a four hunddred metre triangle formed by the Hospital, Bastion 1 kitchen and the Accn in six trips.
Yes Si, but at least you are in theatre where the bad guys can at least get at you, and the risks you are taking in Bastion kitchen qualify for a medal on their own! :D

Last trip was about 11 months ago. Food was excellent throughout. There will always be a front end and a back end. More to do with the title of awards. Operational Service Medal for example should be restricted to those who actual conduct ops in harms way (thinking rosette type thing here) and not those who just happen to be in the Operational Theatre or supporting it.
