Title: Gangleader147's Fundraising Gaming Related Raffle
Post by: gangleader147 on 05 February 2013, 05:50:42 PM
Thanks to Leon for permission and support with this.

It has been talked about and now is the time to start of the gaming related raffle.  This raffle will be advertised across several forums with permission and various gaming communities/groups.

I am fundraising and raising the profile of a local charity (local to me).  The Steve Charles Help a Friend Fund www.hafhaf.co.uk .  Set up in 2010 it has been quite a low key charity but its about time it built up to meet demand.  14 of us have come together to support the charity, fundraise and raise its profile over the next 12 months ending with us hauling our backsides up a small hill known as Kilimanjaro – well if a load of celebs can do it ...

The charity was formed when Steve Charles, a local musician was diagnosed with throat cancer, life extending treatment could not be provided under the NHS because of the risk and the low success rate.  As such his friends got together and raised sufficient funds for the private medical treatment.  Sadly this treatment did not work.  But the charity works under the ideal of money shouldn't be an issue if there is potential to extend life.

The Charity doesn't claim to solve issues, they pride themselves on helping people and families, generally through a critical illness.  Making life a little better, or a little longer.  Another example was an emergency loan for a flight to the US to see a dying relative, the loan was permitted and granted and paid back in full on their return with no expected interest.

Each case is dealt with on a one to one basis by the committee (nothing to do with me and I don't fancy holding the purse strings).

Anyway the bit you are really interested in –

As part of my fundraising endeavour I am hosting a gaming related raffle through the community.  Tickets are just £2.50 each and will run until the 31st May 2013.  A date sufficient to make sure you all part with pennies and if you find you have some spare cash at the end of the month then you can buy some more.  Also a chance to get more prizes when I see traders in person.

Tickets - £2.50

Currently I have pledged;

Paul Hicks will sculpt a 28mm foot/infantry figure of your specification (well worth more than £2.50)

Also pledges of vouchers or products from:

Aventine Miniatures
MCS Miniatures
Pendraken Miniatures
Warbases
Warmacre
West Wind Productions

Keep an eye on this page for updates on prizes etc.

Payment is to me by cheque or paypal (gift) contact me for details – so I can keep track of whats what, include your name address  - if you donate this direct to the charity they may take some time to update me.

Alternatively if you just want to make a donation then visit the donation page – click Lee and Jaime Burton Expedition but also send me a message as again it takes some time for the charity to let me know and its nice to know where to send the love.

OK gang - had a few questions about the charity, understandable as they dont spend the time and funds on their web page focussing funds to their cases;

Our current campaign is Sophies Campaign.

Sophie's Campaign - This is an appeal that I know will get a good response and I am hoping we are able to help this poor family. Sophie is a 5 year old girl from Dorchester who suffered a stroke recently and is in Southampton Hospital. If you know Southampton Hospital well, you will know its cost a fortune to pay parking, fuel everyday is horrendous and then you have to buy food whilst you are with your little girl. The Steve Charles Help a Friend Fund would like to give Sophie's family £20 a day for the next 3 months towards their daily visit to see Sophie. And thats why I am humping my butt up that hill known as Kilimanjaro!!

Sophie is in the the same year as my oldest daughter at school, the same school.

My aim is to have donated £5-6k to the charity from me and the missus!!  The rest of the gang bar one are raising for the charity (the remaining one who is raising for another charity is paying a 'tax' to the charity for joining our team ;-)  )

Up to the £2000 mark with various fundraisers, I am aiming for around £6000 by Christmas.

Just over a week left to buy tickets and it looks like Simple Miniature Games will be pulling the tickets on my behalf.
