Title: American airborne
Post by: Jim Ando on 03 February 2013, 06:53:11 PM
Hi
Just ordered some d-day para`s at york but haven`t a clue what colour to paint them.

I know the d-day uniforms differed slightly in colour from the market garden uniforms.

Does anyone know which vallejo colours I could use for both uniforms.

Cheers

Jim

Basically D-Day was the khaki uniform, and for OMG, 82nd was in olive drab. And for Ardennes both were in Olive Drab.

Whoa there Cowboy.  If you want a bit completely unbiased view of the correct colour  ;) I recommend you visit this site before going down the OD/Khaki route
http://www.atthefront.com/us/uniforms/whatiskhaki.html (http://www.atthefront.com/us/uniforms/whatiskhaki.html)

For me it depends on your view of That Looks About Right (TLAR) against "Proper".  You know that I work on the TLAR principle so found this interesting. I haven't painted mine yet as I can't decide  :D

Well, make up your mind! I have American airborne on the workbench as we speak!

But for what it's worth, for early, I'd use OD#3, for later the OD#7. Then again, I've never been a big fan of the 'everything the same colour' style of painting. So a more light or more dark green shade, with maybe some going towards the very light green/beige shade. I suppose that makes me a TLAR type of person. But note that there is some gap between how I think it should be painted, and how it actually turns out. Oh well, we live and learn.

I'll do a photo of original stuff if there is a bit of sun tomorrow. The color may be affected as it is used items.
