I've just reset my cache and I'm seeing the same thing............
I'm guessing that the avatar folder was inaccessible for the short period of time when I was running error correction on the db after the server migration in the early hours of this morning.
Looking at the logs it appears that the Forums response was to remove all the avatars from everyones profile......... sigh. I hadn't noticed before because my Desktop sits behind a proxy.
The solution is to re upload your avatar on your profile I'm afraid :(
